Glad you're happy with your new car...but I'm confused by your reasoning on
picking the Jetta. You do realize that there are many Golfs/GTis out there
with the same motor and accoutrements, right?

and they are lighter, and most likely handle better.

Jetta's are more plentiful on the market, especially if you want 4 doors...
4 door Golf 1.8T's are rare (only sold till 2001 I think) - plus they're
basically the same car... so who really cares - drive the same, front end
looks better (imo), no dirt piles up on the hatch, because there is no
hatch. I found backing up to be equally easy with a Golf or a Jetta - so no
advantage there (usually hatchbacks have much nicer visibility).

Meh. Says he wanted a Golf, loved the Golf. Bought the Jetta apparently
because he liked the power and the plush. And as you say, basically the same
car...so why no more Golf love?

Just saying, is all.

Yah, well he was in the market for a Golf, great car (we've got two... one's
a TDI, one's a two-point-slow) and found a 1.8T Jetta that he fell in love
with... If you aren't attached to the hatchback of the Golf the switch is
quite painless... I prefer the Golf too, but if an offer came up for a 1.8T
Jetta (or the Mk5) for good value, I might switch (getting bored of my
diesel, I'm still young, I need one relatively fast car before I settle
down - the 2.0L I hardly ever drive - only when my TDI is in the shop)

He probably still likes Golf's just as much - I like them just about equally
to Jetta's... maybe he'll post a reply to enlighten us.

Not by much
and most likely handle better.

If a GTI with a sport package, yes.
