Need 1.8T turbo valve

Rex B 9 March 2005 00:47:37
I need the little plastic valve that dumps excess boost.
It's about $45 at the dealer. I'd like to get one that will last a
little longer, but I dont' want to spend $150. Any alternatives?
Or, is there a better deal on the OE?

Bailey Motorsport diverter valve runs about $150, Forge diverter valve about
$135 at ECS Tuning.

Both work pretty well, based on other's experiences.

Rex,

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions...

I'm curious though, what are the symptoms of a failed diverter valve? The
1.8T we have now is my first turbo car and your post suggests that this
failure isn't that uncommon. It'd be a nice tidbit to file in my head for
future troubleshooting.

thanks,
Craig

We have 96K miles on this car, and we're about to put the 3rd valve
on it.

Symptoms: Loss of boost, loss of power. You still get some boost, but
not the solid push in the small of your back that we all become addicted to.
Also, the first valve made a kind of 'hiccup' sound when you let off
the gas. The 2nd one isn't doing that.
BTW, when we replaced the first one we bought the one for the Audi
TT, which is supposed to give a little more boost. They may have
consolidated all of them into this one number by now.
If you are in doubt, buy one ($45 or less) and replace it. It's an
easy change, right on top of the motor (left rear). Plastic valve, 2 hoses.
If yours was bad, you will notice the difference immediately. If no
change, then you have a spare for when you DO need it :)
