 Yes I mean the whip.

Thanks for your quick reply.

It sounds like this will fix the problem, just have to figure out how to
remove the headliner.

Don't remove the headliner. If I remember correctly, you just pull
down hard on the rear trim while standing at the open hatch. Then
work thru a crack.

I just wanted to say THANK U,to Nicky S.and Dave S.(in Texas). I took my
car to Best Buy to some music in my car back in August and I few weeks
after that, that's when my car started acting funny. I had the music
unhooked yesterday and the service engine light went off,and the only
codes that were left were the E55,E40,and E52.However the service engine
light reappeared. I still just wanted to say thanks,so it may in deed be
an electrical problem and not necessary a transmisson problem. I find out
for sure the weekend.

OK, down to a more manageable set of codes. I've already explained the
E52 code. The E55 is the TPS adjustment. When it was replaced, if it
was adjusted 'close enough', the ECM will compensate for any slight
misadjustment. This compensation is part of the 'learning' process
(RAM) of the computer system.
The E40 is what is turning on the service soon engine light. It may be
a faulty power steering switch, bad electrical connection at the switch
or in the circuit. The ECM uses this switch input to control the
ISC(idle speed control). If, after you clear the codes, this code
returns, check to see if it is a 'intermittent' or 'hard' code.
Remember to give the systems some road time so the ECM can
'learn'(rebuild the RAM). After that time, if that code returns as an
intermittent code, then most likely either the switch is bad or there is
a bad ground connection. I can give you some simple tests to figure
that out, if you are up for that.

I can handle that,I cleared the codes and I ready for the tests.

OK, I'm going to guess the E40 code is still present. The ECM part of
the computer system has the ability to self-test the power-steering
switch. In order to begin the test sequence, the engine must be
running. Enter diagnostics and let it perform the two passes. Once
that is accomplished, .7.0 must be displayed. From the .7.0 point,
depress the brake pedal and release it. The switch test sequence will
start with E.7.1. That is the brake switch test. If it cycles to the
next test E.7.2, let it cycle to the E.7.8 test. Each test will take
10sec to accomplish, so let it proceed on it's own. Once the E.7.8 is
displayed, turn the wheels from straight ahead to full left and full
right. While you are turning the steering wheel, the ECM is checking
the switch.

When the tests are complete, the ECM will display the failed tests.
Don't be concerned about the failed tests(7.1-7.7), since you didn't
perform the action required for each particular test. If the ECM shows
the 7.8 test failed, then the switch is suspect. If it passed the test,
then the fault isn't present at this time and the service soon light
isn't being turned on by the E40 code.

If the switch failed the self-test let me know, and I can give you some
diagnostic tests you can do.

OK - Thanks everyone. Just got my air flow meter replaced (so I no longer
stall in the middle of the road at busy junctions:) I'll have a go at the
handbrake this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for all your help

That what I needed to know. I am so glad that there is a problem with the
clutch and not necessary in my head!! At almost three bucks a gallon I am
wasting a lot of money.

 Guys,
Thanks for all your help over the last couple of weeks with the rebuild of
my zetec.

Found out why the car was only on three cylinders, I thought all the
connectors to the injector rail were individual, but after checking I'd
crossed the air inlet solenoid connector with no1 injector.

So long and short of it, car now runs except from a leak from near the water
pump, took it for about a 60mile run yesterday, and all OK apart from a
little overheating.

Need to double how the auxialliary belt goes back on as I think I may have
made a mistake there and the pump maybe in reverse and that's what's caused
the leak.

Again thanks to all those who responded.

A

Nope, both black connectors with a brown ,different coloured striped, and
black wire.

Don't happen to know of a pic on the web, that shows the belt routing? All I
could find was the one on zetecinside, which is different. Mind you
hopefully will be looking under the bonnet of a similar car this avo.

Cheers again.

Speaking of thanks, rasnm has been supported for free
by Bill at carracing.com for 10 years.

We are deeply indebted to him and owe him our
thanks.

We missed our 10th anniversary. It looks as though
the first post went out on August 23, 1998.

So now we're into our second decade (!).

Wow! That's really cool! I remember seeing the petition on USENET.
Can't remember when I first posted here... Thank you to everyone who
made RASNM what it is.... Without all the posters, there would be
nothing here to read!!!

Happy Thanksgiving RASNM!

Among the zillion and one things I'm thankful for are not only NASCAR, but
all y'all. Youse guys (to speak a bit of East Side of Chicago here) make it
all a bit more fun, and RPG gives a body stuff to root for when one's driver
is tanking wildly....

St. Jude, can we work on a better 2009 for Kurt & Penske? Pretty please? :)

As you know, I like Kurt as well, and to be honest,
he had some really good runs this year, only to get knocked out
by stupid things happening. Very little to show,
for such a good driver.
I'm with you, I hope he ends up with more to show next year
than this year...
He's cleaned up his public image a lot,
still sort of a knucklehead 'off camera',
but he's a heck of driver to watch when his stuff
is under him..

Jamie had a strong finish, I hope to see him do
well in '09 as well.
Don't know about changing CC's now though..
Seems like they just got it together with a bunch of top 5's
at the end of the season, and a couple of shots at wins..
