odd alternator/reg issue

Juper Wort 3 May 2005 02:04:54
 heyall.

Bay with upright 1600. Alternator, external Bosch reg, std three pin
connection ontop of alt plus large red wire.

Alt light has stopped, replaced bulb, still no go, even when engine not
running but ign on

Battery voltage seems to be 16v at fast idle, occasionally raising to 18v. I
assume reg is toasted, but was still expecting the ignition light to work. I
will check that the voltmeter is working tomorrow by checking same on the
beetle.

Any confirmation of above would be wonderful, as long as I can get a reg
with same fitting...

Sounds odd. I see you are in the UK, so is this a factory 1600
w/alternator, or someone's aftermarket install?

With no idiot light, the alternator should not put out anything, but
yours does. I wonder why.

Voltage is too high. Why? Is your voltmeter calibrated?
