Friend has restored bug for sale

Red Bug 30 April 2005 21:54:46
Over on the SAMBA, check out a fellow club member's '74 restored VW for
sale... He's moving from the Kenora, Ontario area and is going to need
to sell it. ;-(

I've shared space on the grass at car shows with him and it's a very
good car (no rust).

Anyway, here's a link to his post on SAMBA:

RESTORED '74? $8,900? Boy, I've got a '72 that's hardly even been driven. It
doesn't need restoring!

Why does it strike me as just plain crazy to 'restore' a relatively recent
Bug and sell it for a crazy price? Send me the addresses of those who fall
short of the asking price. I'll sell for half that.

What do you care? I've got a bit more than that into my own '74. It's the way of the world, you aren't going to get
anything that isn't going to need rust repair, mechanical works etc. until you start getting above $5k and and that's
even on the low side.

You have more than $8,900 in a '74? Well, I think year nutz. That's over the
top. You could have started with an earlier model and come out the same
without having that fuging ugly styling of the later Bugs. I swear some guy
was given the charge of making the Bug uglier ever year.

And you are wrong about rust. My '72 has absolutely no rust. Ever.

 That's 8900 cdn........................What's that in
Merkin?..........5k?? (pokin fun)

It's a really nice example of a beetle of that model though.
apparently some good attention to detail. might be worth all of that.

Totally agree with that -- by the time I've restored my 75 it will probably
be as old as a 66 is now... :)

More power to you. If you find an extra buyer or two, maybe I'll drive mine
up there and sell it.

Almost funny, but I wouldn't call a Raby engine 'lame'. (You should see my> Kelmark. No Bug in it.)>

where did he mention the engine...?.... "some kind of lame LOOKING sports
car"....nope no references to engine at all.... come on John you are
slipping...i'm worried about you...

why would i do that? its your common everyday work in progress....paint
stripping/priming partially done, all trim/bumper holes/ front turn signals
shaved, and gathering parts for the new stroker.... nothing special....

Hell, I have a '99 New Beetle today and I can easily that someday in the future somebody might wish to restore a car
like it or some of the cooler latter day cars

I knew It'd be less here,........just not sure of the exchange rate at
time of post, and didn't take the time to look it up. Hence the
"<pokin fun>" thing in the post I made before................Still a
decent car if it's as nice as it looks.

I'd try and get the friend to post BETTER pictures if it's truely
restored. those pictures are definitely from different times as some
of them it has Beauty rings on the right, some don't...........

I'd certainly be looking at it if it were in my area. But I won't buy
a vehicle without sticking my nose around it a bit.

one mans meat is another man's poison. i go wit ben on this. i have a
lovely 71' standard and often get run down by other newer beetle
owners for having a primative car. their arguement is that the car is
more technically inclined than the others. i admit that the car is
better engineered but that doesnt mean that thr 71s or other beetles
are worse. some have told me that the pre-67 beetles resemble frogs.
i have no comments on either of these individuals. they are just
giving their opnion. but one thing, one should never comment on
another person's car. its as good as insulting your wife or
girl-friend! so guys, think again before looking down at other
people's possesions. i dont look like brad pitt but least i m okie
looking. but i dont go around telling that he or she is ugly or worse
looking than i am. so guys, do think about this a minute k? no hard
feelings coz i want to voice my opinion. well beetlez rule! regards,
dev
