Transporting a Bicycle

Tom Nakashima 22 March 2005 23:05:27
I'm also a cyclist, who rides a road bike, not often but there are times I
need to transport a bicycle in my beetle. Currently I'm taking off both
front and rear wheels and transporting the bike in the rear seat.
Suggestions on how others are transporting a bike.
thanks,
-tom

I just have a little rack that I strap onto the engine decklid. I use
some nylon straps through the vents above the lid and to the bumper to
make sure that it doesn't shake loose. It's just one of those standard
trunk racks but it works okay on a bug.

I thought about a bike rack on the engine deck, but the VW Beetle is so well
designed and relies much on air cooling, that any disturbance might have an
effect on air flow.

Well, for what it's worth I took my Miyata 710 back and forth to college
about 24 times that way (100 miles in Texas weather). No problems noted.
