 I would like to get rid of my spitcase tranny and put in a tunnel type. I
have a couple of them from early 60's bugs but the diminshions are
differant. Does anyone know what will be necisary to swap them out? I have
found sites to do a fully switch over to IRS but I have been unable to find
any info on swingaxel swaps.

Haven't done it but I understand you need an early Bus nosecone.

Hey Andrew
the only thing you hve to do is cut and weld in a new front tranny
mountor as Jim says get a nosecone from a 61.

Hey Andrew

 VW Trends, November 1991. It says that you need the nose cone and shift lever ("hockey stick") from a Type 2. The
article mentioned that the new nose cone might hit the floorboard and they banged on it with a hammer a couple of time
to get the needed clearence. You have to drill a new detent hole in the shift lever for the shift rod coupler screw.
