AC Vw Shops in Houston Texas

Mike West 21 March 2005 00:26:53
Are there ,Is there? a good shop in Houston Texas that can work on my Air
Cooled VW Bug?
I need to swap the body from one pan to another reconditioned one. I would
do it myself but can not round up enough "friends" to help me do it.

Thanks, Mike

You mean to tell me two of us can pick the body up and relocate it to it's
new home??

Right now I don't even have one friend! Sorta like when you need help
moving!

LOL

I lifted a 67 body with just one friend. Remove engine and shifter first
so you don't need to lift as high.

You will have trouble lifting higher than your waist. But you can keep
it off the floor for a while and walk around carrying it.

We had doors, lids and window glass removed.. I'm sure stronger guys
could do it with all of them still in place.
We aren't very strong, two pencil pushers :)

Or you can do it your self if 1 is too much !

You need a jack and a couple of saw horses (home made, extra large!).

................I lifted the front of my '66 up to my waist with the doors,
bumpers & glass still in place. My two teenage sons had the heavier back end
as we got it high enough to walk it sideways from the pan to three sawhorses
(one in front, two on each corner of the back). I was able to let my end
down on the front sawhorse and then go position the two sawhorses in back.
With heavy work gloves, the bumpers are great hand holds.

Not to brag, just to mention it is possible..

I got the body off my -56 complete with doors, glass etc. off by myself,
one end at the time..

Lift, and shove something underneath with your knee or foot, not to
diffy realy...

No pain no gain!

Mike

Friends help you move, real friends help you move bodies.
