Drivers seat loose - 2000 Camry

Gdc 10 May 2005 00:48:26
 Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2000 Camry XLE with leather.

My question is this:

Is there any way to fix the excess play in the drivers seat backing?
Everytime I give it gas from a stop, the seat backing moves back about 1".
It's very anoying and I would like to repair this...
If I grab the seat and move the backrest back and forth, there is alot of
play in there..
Way too much in my humble opinion...
Has anyone else had the same problem on their 4th gen Camry?
If I were to speculate on what needs to be repaired, I would think that the
seat hinges inside
are not built correctly.. Perhaps removing them, adding some thickness to
the steel by welding a couple of beads of
arc weld on them, and grind smooth again.?? Just a thought... Or am I way
out of line here?

Any info, much appreciated,
Thanks,

GDC

 Fair enough..
So has anyone actually fixed this problem? Or paid Alldata.com for their
"membership fees" to see how to fix this?

I took out the drivers seat tonight to have a look, and the problem is
actually the silver 1/2" round bar that goes across on the front of the
seat..
It's loose and being held on by snap rings...

The only way to fix this, from what I can tell would be to remove the bar,
weld on some extensions onto the bar ends (Let's say about 1/2" long on each
side) and then die the end so that it can take a nut rather than the snap
ring... Thats the reason there is alot of play in the seat...
Total design failure...

Thoughts?
