'99 Camry Stereo Radio

Marc Raizman 27 April 2005 09:34:35
I recently bought an used '99 Camry and overall I'm happy with the car.
However, the radio is a bummer. It works well but when I hit a bump or
similar, the signal breaks up and it is almost impossible to listen to the
radio. Can anyone
suggest what the problem might be? Is it possible that the wiring to one of
the loudspeakers is loose? Or is something loose within the radio itself?
Now, to my surprise, I found in a car radio repair listing on the Internet a
notice that reads "safety recall" for Camry car stereos in the several
models including '99. It suggests one should contact one's dealer with the
VIN #. Does anyone out there knows what this is about. Thank you for your
help in this matter. Best, MR

Im sure the dealer will know, won`t he. In past some camrys in 91 had
casettes that caught fire and were recalled.

if it's always all the speakers, then it's the wiring to the unit [or
the unit itself].

I'd check the antenna connection if it's loose it will cause static
especially on AM. Also check the antenna to make sure it is grounded
properly. I once had an old Toyota 1973 I think and the entire fender
somehow lost the ground and the antenna picked up a lot ignition noise.
Here's an interesting Toyota Avalon Reliability report that indicates
the radio/antenna may have a grounding problem.

SO DON'T SHOP THERE!!!! Geeeze, man!

So let's send him to some stereo store where he can buy the same item for
double the price!

Cut the crap. I live in a town where the Goody-Two-Shoes kept the Evil
Wal-Mart out of town, when we only had one dept store. That was Ames. They
went belly-up, remember. So what to the Earthy Crunchies here do? Why,
they let in a Home Depot!!! Just what we needed...a FOURTH HI store, with
NO decent department stores. Marvelous.

Just what IS it you have against Wal-Mart, anyway? Be nice, or I'll plonk
you yet again! I know, when Sam Walton owned it, it was different, and now
it is run by Bean Counters, BUT, we need SOMETHING. K-Mart sure can't keep
up. But nobody ever mentions K-Mart, and they practice the same buying
policies as W-M. Give me a REASON why I shouldn't go to Wal-Mart and buy
the same items for less...

Kind of ironic complaining about Wal-mart in a Toyota newsgroup? It's a
world economy, the USA is competing against cheap labor and competition
from around the world. The standard of living in America is bound to
come down as the rest of the world increases their slice of the pie.
For a hint of things to come,

LOL. You said it! In the '80's I used to take a LOT of guff about owning
Toyotas. "Patriotism" said I should have had a US built car, no matter HOW
junky they were! And, in my area of the country, most of them came from
Canada!
It's a > world economy, the USA is competing against cheap labor and competition > from around the world. The standard of living in America is bound to > come down as the rest of the world increases their slice of the pie.> For a hint of things to come,> http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/29/AR2005042901385.html> http://www.wsws.org/articles/2003/feb2003/stll-f26.shtml> http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdpenny.htm

Anyone with a brain can see this is happening! It has been happening for
years. 7 years ago all the cheap computer parts from Taiwan (er, change
Cheap to affordable) were being usurped by cheap computer parts from China
(no substitution necessary...). But, in the course of a year, more and
more NAME BRAND parts were coming from China. Even if our friend here own
a Dell or an H-P, he probably has a LOT of Chinese parts in it.

OTOH, I believe this guy is a shill of some sort. His usual answer to a
poster's question is, "Take it to the dealer" or "Look on bought4less.com".
Mentio Wally-World and he goes off the rails...
