2004 Camry LE 2.4L engine noise

Tim 26 April 2005 07:45:25
 Hi,

I heard a bit noise when engine reaches 2K RPM or higher, esp when it speeds
up... what's the problem?

1. could it be the problem caused by having not changed engine oil by its
previous owner?
2. or is it a common problem for this model/year car? (i heard someone said
it could be a common problem that happens to the engine belt for 2004 Camry
LE)

Pls help, thanks.

Tim

While you wouldn't expect a newish car to have engine noises,..there is an
old rule when trying to assess them- If the noise gets louder under load,
and this can be tested by putting the car in gear and gently applying
throttle while stopping the car with its brakes,..then the noise can be a
cause for concern ie piston slap or worse bearing noise. If it doesn't get
louder then you may leave it, to see if it gets worse- overhead gear
noise.maybe the culprit which doesnt necessitate immediate action.

 Thanks for help.

In either case, is it hard to fix? have to go to Toyota dealer or just a
regular auto store? how much does it take usually?

Thanks,

Tim
