Toyota the number two automaker in the world now?

Toyota, the world's second-biggest automaker, is benefiting from
demand for hybrids, Scion small cars and redesigned Avalon sedans and
Tacoma pickups. The company also got a boost from Lexus, the
best-selling luxury brand in the U.S. A new GS sedan went on sale in
February, and deliveries of the Lexus RX 400h, a hybrid sport-utility
vehicle, began April 18.

A friend of mine recently got a new RX 400h. Nice car, though it only gets
about 30 mpg. He said he paid $60k, for that amount of money, I would have
got the LX470 or the GX400.

I saw the new Avalon yesterday on the road. Can't believe how they shrunk
the windows. Might as well buy a Chrysler 300C instead.

What? And the 300 doesn't have smallish windows? Why the double standard,
you Crapsler apologist?

In all probability, the Avalon will be more mechanically reliable than the
300 in the long run. Don't use your experiences to suggest otherwise.

Here in Canada, the big 3's sales patterns are the reverse of those in the
U.S., although that's not saying much when you compare to the imports.

GM posted a 2% increase in sales, while Ford's sales were up 5%.

Crapsler's sales fell 7%, as a 9% increase in car sales (300 and Magnum in
particular) was offset by a 12% decrease in truck/SUV sales.

Honda and Nissan reported sales increases of 17%, and sales of Toyota and
Volvo were up 12%. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz' sales were up 26%!

The market share for the big 3 in Canada is now 54.9%. IMO, it won't be
long before more than half of all new cars sold are imports.

You will see more new cars with higher belt lines. Look at the
500 and Mustang, a result of new federal side intrusion
standards, required for models all new bodies. Chrysler just
happened to be first vehicle out with an all new body that meet
the standard.
