MR2 Roadster stereo

Andreas Baumbch 1 May 2005 20:27:48
Can someone help me with this problem:

I have an MR2 Roadster, built 2002, the facelift version. It has the ugly
standard oversized Toyota CD player. I wanted to replace this with a nice
Sony MP3 player, but the guys at the shop said there was no harness adapter
(????) available for this model. Looking at the internet, I cannot find any
information on the wiring of this radio, hence I cannot do it myself.

Any idea where to get adaptor/information ?

Any help greatly appreciated

Andreas

Looks like they have an adaptor harness for your vehicle...

Can't you see he's in the UK (one of those small places outside of the US,
beyond the dragons...) ;-)

Google is your friend:

http://www.incardiscount.co.uk/acatalog/HA_TOYOTA.html

Looks like you need a PC2-17-4, which was the same I needed for my 1999 mk2
MR2, got my from Halfords for around £12.

You may also like to have a look at this for fitting:

Scott's not too sharp on those keen insights. But once you bap him
over the head with a clue-by-four... (And you hear the crack as the
wood breaks...)

Looks like Metra (USA) = Nexxia (GB).

Exactly - NEVER cut the car harness connector off, use an adapter
plug kit. And if someone else cut it off (like a petty radio thief)
get the theft repair kit and splice it back on before proceeding.

If you cut the car harness connector off, you're standing on your
head with a flashlight, trying to splice wires inside the dashboard
radio cavity where you have no room to maneuver, and no way to see
what you're doing because your arms are in the way...

And those wires will never get longer, no matter how many times you
rework the splices. ;-)

The easiest way is to take the harness adapter that fits the car
loom, the harness adapter that came with and fits the back of your new
radio, and all the wiring diagrams over to a nice well-lit workbench.
Splice them all together there, where you can see what you're doing.
