PLEASE HELP

KristenLH27 7 April 2005 19:10:25
Hey. I have a ’99 Corolla. Last summer I was driving my car down the
road and all of a sudden, I heard this sputtering noise and then
everything "dies" and my car coasts to a stop. 10 minutes later, I
could re-start it and drive a mile and it quits on me again. I take
the car to two different dealerships and have 2 diagnostic tests done.
Mechanics say nothing is wrong with it. Well, from then on, when I
start the car, it revs up and down two or three times (without me
doing anything) until it finds it’s correct level. Well, I’ve had no
problems with it quitting on me since last summer (besides the revving
at start-up) and I’m on my way to work tonight and I get to a redlight
and the RPM’s drop so low it sounds like it’s barely running. I get
going and acts like it’s going to stall. Oh, and whenever I’m driving
around 35 mph and let off the gas, it hestitates and acts like it is
going to start bucking. Ugh, I dont’ want to keep having these stupid
tests done if no one can actually help. If you have ANY advice, I’d
really appreciate it. I’ve heard everything from a fuel pump to an air
intake valve? to an 02 sensor problem. HELP ME PLEASE. :(

The air intake sounds like a good place to start. My Celica does this; it
was traced to a small crack in the air intake tube.

The codes that appeared where 7.0,8.8.8,E52,E48,E90,E55,E40,E44,E27,E.Also
when I took my car back to the repair shop, the gut told me that there was
a 50/50 chance that it would work, but he never explained EXACTLY was
wrong
w/the car other that he would rebuild a transmission for me for $1800 :-(
Also those r alot of codes does that mean a new car? I hope not b/c that's
my baby

You listed more than six codes and expect someone here to tell you the
ONE thing that could be the fault?

Obviously you don't like this shop's diagnosis so take it to another
shop for a second opinion.

Thanks T.G Lambach,so very much for suggesting that I take it to another
shop.(DUH) I have as a matter of fact I've take her to 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS.
And I've been given 4 different answers,what I'm looking for is a
something concrete to take to the "NEXT" shop,so I don't get ripped off or
taken advantage.

 Hi Guys,

It's been a while but I come in desperate need.

I need the key for my wheel locking nuts. It's a P reg 406 2.1 TD exec and
peugeot don't sell the key anymore :(

The one I had has broke and is useless. It's the type of key that has four
prongs on it that fit into four holes.

Without it I am screwed as no garage wants to drill them of with fear of
damaging my wheels even though I don't care.

Can anyone help? I'll pay :) My email is simon@clockworkjunkie.com

I'll be checking here though.

Fingers crossed....

Thanks guys

I feel for you!! I had a similar problem. I initially drilled out
the four pins and replaced them with 3mm dia. silver steel(hardened &
tempered). These worked OK initially, but no match for a garages air
wrench. I suggest the best approach is to remove the security bolt with
a female version of a stud extractor(most decent garages would have a
set). Finally, throw away all security bolts & use standard wheel bolts

No self-respecting garage should use any form of impact wrench with these
security bolts, you should only ever use a torque wrench.
However, I have seen advertised a universal adapter for these, though don't
know how effective they might be.
It's in the current Screwfix catalogue, Page 579.
Emergency locking wheel nut remover.
If you want to look it up online it's www.screwfix.com and catalogue number
94826-80

 Thanks guys.
I'm really hoping I can get a replacement from somewhere as I'm not sure
those will work. Would snap them up if they did.

There's a tool I can get but it costs a fortune. :(

I can't believe peugeot won't help me out. Complete Bas£&rds.

i just bought a car yesturday 2000 maxima GLE...its got 121K...oil
changes done regulary, drives fine, this morning when i went to start
it up after a minute or 2 the RPM's dropped and went back up and
stalled, i restarted it and it did it again...i restrted it and it
stayed on this time but still RPM's still went down and almost died
but didnt, i dont know what it is...my brother said to unhook the
battery cable to see if its the alternator so while the car was
started i unhooked the red cable and left the black one on and it
stayed on so im guessing its not the alternator...any suggestions?
tune up? please help
Your brother is a COMPLETE IDIOT!
Your brother must work (or used to) at Pep-Boys.

The alternator wont stall the car, and disconnecting the battery while its
running is a sure invitation for electrical disaster.
What you did WILL damage the ECM,dash gauges, radio, alarm system....you might
have gotten lucky.

I have a '90 Corolla, it started sputtering and nearly dying each AM; It took me months before I finally found the culprit... the spark plug cable had the ring snapped off (when I removed the plug wires to pull my plugs, the ring stayed on the plug). No repair, just spent big bucks and replaced. All good to go since.
