Looking for oil filter adapter ?

Guest 26 February 2005 16:36:24
I am lookiing for an oil filter adapter ( close threaded nipple) . I
want to use a 5/8"-18 oil filter orn a 3/4"-16. I am sure that these
are made but I can seem to find them at the local auto parts store .
Do they have another name? Sources ? - thanks

If you reduce the size of the fitting (5/8" vs 3/4") you may
starve the moving parts for oil, under some operating conditions. Oil
filters used on most on-road vehicles are "full-flow," meaning that
ALL the oil runs through the filter before reaching the engine
galleries. Reducing the fitting size that much takes away about a
third of the flow diameter.

Um, unless you've typed the sizes backwards, you're not going to find> one, 5/8" being smaller than 3/4">
Why do you want to do this, anyway? What's wrong with the stock filter> for your application?>

He's talking about the threaded insert that screws into the block. Looks
sort of like a pipe nipple with a hex shaped ID.

To the original poster, can't say I've ever seen one. I've got a few metric
to 3/4, but not as aftermarket parts, just OEM..

Just curious on what filter has a 5/8"-18 thread. After posting my other
reply, I think I did have a few adapters, but these were machined in
house...

 I just found one -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7955137346&category=46095&sspagename=WD1V
- so they do exist . If I only knew the exact catalog description and
part # I could probably get NAPA to order it and pick it up for a few
$ .

This is for a bypass oil filter setup I am putting together . It
seems that most of the 2 micron filters used in the bypass systems
have a 5/8-18 thread and I want to use the 3/4-16 filter mounts I have
sitting around .

AH... now I understand, you are looking for the whole stud not a
bushing. But I still don't know where you can find one :/

Actually I have a remote filter mount laying around that I just took off
my '55 Stude (has a full flow engine in it now) I can look at it and see
what thread is on it. I was going to pack it up and take it to a swap
meet next week anyway.

I'm not sure what 2 micro 5/8 filters you are refering to. I have looked around and the only below 10 micron spin-on filter I can find is the Amsoil BE-90, BE-100, or BE-110. All these use 1"-14 pitch nipples. I have looked up the Hastings, Fram, AC, Motorcraft, Puralator, K&N and none of these filter particles finer than 10 microns. 10-20 Micron is the size particles that the Mobil 1 filters catch and I believe that the Puralator PureOne do the same size particles.

I'm trying to find a nipple adapter for the 3/4"-16 to 1"-14 so that I can use the Amsoil bypass filters. They are pricey filters ($35 retail) but very good. Holds about 1.5 quarts of oil.

Try this {censored} seller for the nipple adapter / bypass restrictor you are looking for.

The Fram BP50, Purolator L30003, WIX 51050 and the NapaFI2 1050 are all depth (bypass) spin-ons using 5/8-18. I like the Purolator myself. I use it on both the engine and auto tranny for slipstream filtering.
