If applicable I'd look into reliability of the VW 2.4 engine. On our '80
244 GLD6 the block cracked at 135000km. The replacement (new) engine
started smoking badly and lost power at around 130000km and would need
major work. I then sold the car.

Yes.

Well, economical of *fuel*, yes. Very expensive to repair, and repairs are
needed frequently.
reliable, long lived.

Neither, nor. The VW 2.4 litre diesel as used in the Volvo is a turd.

How do you seem to have an answer for everything? and know everything about
everything?

Amazing.

about> everything?>

Easy. You and others like you draw your answers from the experience
that -you- have had.
Daniel and many others draw their answers from the experience that a lot
of -other people- have had.

It's called 'learning' you might try practicing it. 'learning' is what
enables me to know that
skydiving is more dangerous than standing on the ground even though I've
never personally
done it myself.

And even the fuel economy is just OK at lower speeds. When you start
pushing it above 120-130 km/h the economy goes down badly - you need to
push the 86HP engine to the edge. On a trip from Amsterdam to Ljubljana a
92' BMW 525i used around 1l/100km *less* than the Volvo.

But the body is bulletproof. I was involved in an accident in which the
other car was totalled whereas I could have driven away if the radiator
hadn't been punctured.

Simple: 42.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
