battery gassing

Peter 30 January 2005 06:53:22
Is there a voltage level beyond which a battery being recharged will
start gassing?
Or is gassing part of the recharge process? If so, then trickle
charging a "maintenance-free" battery is not a good idea since it'll
lead to irreplaceable electrolyte loss, right?

Most of the 'maintenance free' batteries still have covers over the
cells that can be removed by carefully prying them up. You might have
to cut the label on some first.

You then can still top them up with distilled water.
