My one experience with ebay was when I tried to buy a service manual for a copier on ebay and got burned. By the time I realized that the goods weren't coming, it was too late to file a grievance. Best I could do was give the seller a bad review. Most of what I hear about ebay is positive though. Oppie

Now that I have sold the '02 SC2, I now have just a few spare parts that I can't use on my ION. I have been contemplating selling them. I have an AEM short-ram intake w/K&N cone, a K&N drop-in filter, clear corner SPS lights, and perhaps more. Am I best selling them on eBay or thru one of the many Saturn forums? and how trustable is eBay to sell stuff on? TIA -- marx404

Good luck to you with whatever vehicle you purchased. I'd definitely stay away from the place you received the transmission service.

Not too good for the clutch but then it did last 100k miles before it needed relining. Hard to do while having my morning coffee however. Of course that was only going To work. Home was down-hill.

| 95 Saturn SL2 Oil Leak Leeinwind 04:47:37 |
| | I have this problem for quite a while. Oil needed adding 1qt/300 mi. I replaced valve cover gasket (together with pistion gaskets). But the oil consumption is still the same as before. I saw puddles starting from intake. I know this sounds odd. But I did see Oil not fuel. I also feel some oil outside oil pan gasket. So my next step is to replance the oil pan gasket. But one friend online told me it could be the problem of O-ring of oil pump and if I don't fix it, the oil leakage will continue.
I'm a little confusing. Oil pump locates inside. How could the o-ring result in an oil leaking to the ground?
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated in advance.

I can sometimes get it started and keep the idle above 1500 and it will continue to run but if I need to stop say at the store it won't start upon return it just does the ra ra ra ra...but won't turn over. Would this be something with the choke? or is it the fuel pump?

The alarm system and door locks work great, the only problem i am having is when i hit the button to start the car the start cranks, but the car does not start. Also i cannot start the car using only the key. Now the car does start if i get in turn the key to ON and then hit the button on the remote to start. The system did not come with any relays, therefore i did not install any, is that the problem? The system is a ScyTek 400RS Series. Thank you for the help!

I posted on Oct. 3 about my problems with mechanics and getting a diganosis. I have a 1993 saturn SW2 station wagon. Since then, I spent about $550 for the 4th mechanic to change the spark plugs, spark plug cables, and supposedly clean the gasoline out of the engine because, they said, it had washed the rings, but the rings were still operational. Oh, and overcharge for putting a new tire on.
Now it's already starting to have problems again with starting. It's just like before: it seems to start ok in the morning or at night when it's cooler, but in the daytime, it's harder. Or when the engine is warm, it's harder. I have to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor to get the engine to catch, and sometimes it will just die if I take my foot off the pedal. Once it starts, and I'm backed out of the parking spot and moving forward, it's ok.
mecahnic #1 thought it was something electrical, but not anything fuel related. Pep Boys (#2) was worthless. The saturn dealership (#3) thought it was the spark plugs, the valve cover gasket, the fuel filter, the coolant temperature sensor, and thought it needed a fuel injection cleaning. They also wanted to sell me 4 new tires because I had one flat. Advanced Auto Dynamics (#4) decided it was the spark plugs and spark plug wires. They said it wasn't the valve cover gasket, that there was some leakage but that is common for Saturns, and just to check it each time I get an oil change.
That worked for about a week, and now it's starting up again. Any ideas about what I could suggest to mechanic #5? When I can go, that is....

If oil has saturated the spark plug boots then the spark is probably grounding out. If it is an S-series 'Compression Sense Timing' could easily be thrown off by this and unable to make heads or tails of the situation. Type in "valve cover" in their search bar. $350 will easily buy decent tools and parts needed but not the skill. If you understand the walkthroughs people have done then give it a try. No starts are usually very easy to diagnose unless they're sporadic... In article <4703d531$0$16505$88260bb3@news.teranews.com>, boppie@nospam.com says... Might help if you told us what model / year you have. As commonly stated here, engine starts on a combination of spark, fuel air. find which one is missing and go from there. If you can't get it least running poorly, you can't get a good diagnosis on anything else. "kohlrabi_croce" <kohlrabi_croce@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1191433859.583256.42540@g4g2000hsf.googlegroups.com... I'm about at my wit's end here. I'm currently on my 4th mechanic, am very worried he's going to go through the $900 I still have left, and then some. Problem is: car doesn't start. The first mechanic is a guy who just fixes cars in his driveway, without a shop or proper tools. He said it wasn't the fuel filter or fuel pump, but he thought it was I told him I expected the spark plugs were bad, and he didn't even next, I took it to Pep Boys. They said that cylinder number one was bad, that the engine had no compression, but they they don't know about fixing no engines so I'd have to go to a place that does fix Next, I took it to the Saturn Dealership. They said the compression fine, the engine is still good, but it needs a valve cover gasket. Apparently they didn;t even try to figure why it won't start; they just took a look at the spark plugs and said: "oh they are covered in oil, that's got to be the reason." They also said it needed some minor stuff that is not about getting it to start, like a coolant temperature sensor and a tuneup. $915.00. So I took it out of there another opinion. $95 Please. Now it's at mechanic number 4. At least he said: "let's get it to start first, then figure out what else is wrong." Ok so he's replacing the spark plugs and spark plug cables, putting one new tire on it (that went flat while the car was just sitting for a month), $550. wow. I only have $350 left. So if I can't afford to pay this guy to do anything else, which I think is likely, I may have to take it somewhere to have somebody just open up the engine, slap a valve cover gasket on it and close it back up again without doing anything else. Shouldn't it be possible to get that for

| Haynes ION manual Marx404 14:40:35 |

Not as comprehensive as previous Haynes manuals, especially when it comes to tranny , only 3 pages and not much info. on the tranny and just a paragraph or two on manual trannys at that. Very thin book.
Anyone have the Chilton version and is it more in detail? (last time I buy a plastic wrapped book) TIA

Hello, Sorry if this has been hashed to death in earlier posts. I have searched the archives and still have questions. My horn is not working, BTW I hate the position of the horn buttons. Almost impossible to hit one of them when it is immediately needed. That aside. I removed the suspect horn. Checked the voltage at the connector and their is 12v when the horn button is pressed. From reading past posts I understand that this horn has the relay integrated into it. I went to Auto Zone and they sold me a horn that, they said would work with my car. When I got it home it only has 2 terminals to connect to = no relay on the horn. I have searched the net for a replacement horn that has a relay integrated into the horn but have yet to find one. Any info and or links to a site that has one will be appreciated. Thanks Dan.

| further thoughts on spark plugs, coolant sensors and engine starting Kohlrabi Croce 03:32:07 |
| | hi all,
I've been doing some further thinking about it, and I'm just having some thoughts about how engines work.....
Mechanic #4, the one who did the work, told me that the problem with the bad spark plugs was what was causing the engine to be flooded with gas, which caused the rings to become washed. When I heard that, I wasn't so sure it made sense, because the spark plugs basically just provide the "spark", right?
When I heard that If the sensor tells the computer the engine is the wrong temperature then it gets the wrong amount of gas at startup, I thought that was probably what caused it, not the bad spark plugs.
So mechanic #4 told me he had to clean the gasoline out of the engine (isn't that weird - engines are supposed to have gasoline in them), but that the rings were still ok. But then I looked at the invoice, and they don;t have any such kind of labor work listed on there. All it says is: replace ignition cable set, replace all six spark plugs. That's in addition to the diagnosis. So: what if that is all they did - what if that was what it needed to be able to get it to start again, even though it still doesn't start without problems?
Hmm..maybe a better to put it would be: could the coolant temp sensor cause the engine to become so flooded that it doesn't start? Or could the spark plugs cause that, though I don;t see how? Or was the mechanic just telling me something he thought I would buy?
I'm wondering, because I'm working on formulating my complaint against this guy.
TIA!
PS the car is working gingerly. I am trying to be real easy on it until the part & book arrive.

| Re: Manual shifter break-in period Oppie 18:11:42 |
| | As the clutch surface wears in, only the friction point range should change - the clutch pedal distance from starting to grab to fully engaged. As it wears in, this distance decreases. Should have absolutely no effect on pedal force.
They might be using a heavier pressure plate spring or different mechanical advantage in the pedal to release arm.

I cringe when shifting as it feels like it takes more force on this shifter than say an old '03 ION to put the shifter from gear to gear. Is there an expected break-in period on this shifter or is this a newer type of shifter than on an '03 ION and it just shifts crappy? -- marx404
