Thanks for reminding me about that! For years and years Saturn Dealers

said 7500. Now within the past two years the dealers have gone to 5000

Re: Saturn 2003 ION - Trunk design Marx404 03:11:58
Where the trunk closes and covers the inside part of the taillight assembly,
there is about a 1/2 " gap which is designed to channel water down the rear
bumper. I haven't noticed any light in the corners, but if it doesn't leak,
good thing. Keep in mind that all an S-series and ION body design consists
of is a safety frame, support sheet metal and bolted on polymer panels.

Where to get door keylock parts for 1999 SL2? Mark Bratcher 05:00:12
I have a Saturn SL2 and the driver side door is missing the protective cover over the key lock.

The key lock works OK with the key, it's just missing that metal exterior cover.

I can buy the entire lockset from a dealer for about $70, but wondering if I can get just the part I need
somewhere.

Any place online that would sell them?

Thanks.

Re: Stevens personal attacks Marx404 19:01:50
Ok, now I've had it. My apologies to everyone here (except Steven Scharf)
for this post, but I have had it with the personal attacks.

Steven, I want to thank you for outing yourself, that was the purpose of
this post. "All the salespeople"? How many do you count? What is with the
personal attacks, Steven?

For the good readers here, my OP was actually asking why twisted, lonely
people like SMS aka Steven Scharf have been so interested in going out of
their way to personally attack others. Not even Mr. Fact has stooped this
low. One simple Google search of "Steven Scharf" will show that he has been
attacking me personally since back in 2004, um, BEFORE I ever joined Saturn.
ex:

http://www.gmforum.com/online/showthread.php?t=32980&page=2

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=Steven+Scharf+%2B+Saturn

Oh, and just for the record, I went to work for Saturn with the
encouragement of people on Saturn forums. I am a proud Saturn owner foremost
and above all and that is my main motive, Steven; not that I work for Saturn
as you so twist things around. (If I have ever defended anything it was your
personal attacks against me.) You, Steven have personal issues and I have
never done anything to cause you to personally attack me. I don't know you
or why you have been attacking me for all these years but everyone on the
web knows what kind of a lonely miserable loser you are.

Steven spends countless hours scouring Saturn and other sites (ex: cell
phone sites, etc...) for other people's posts then copies and pastes what he
can use to troll and harass them, then he takes it down one step further and
cross-posts them on many other forums in an attempt to slander them. Where
do you find the time to do this, Steven? You must not have a life or any
friends, you are too busy trolling and attempting to exploit other's
reputations. ex:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=Steven+Scharf+%2B+marx404

Steven, read this clearly, though I doubt you have the capacity to absorb it
nor the tenacity to leave it alone afterwards without some "clever" retort.

For all the effort you have spent copying, pasting and editing my personal
posts, all the countless lonely hours you have wasted in front of your
computer cross-posting to GM, Saturn and other car sites slandering me and
all the lonely horrible hours sitting all by yourself in your little lonely
apartment wasted, misquoting me - what has it done for you? Are you a happy
person because of it? What have you gained by wasting so much of your life
personally attacking me?

What a lonely, lonely miserable twisted little person you are. Read what
others have said about you, Steven. Don't you get it? You have no friends.
Not one person who has read your cross-posts likes you or what you do. You
have gained no admiration from anyone, only a trail of enemies who wish that
you would go offline already and get a life. Being as nasty, miserable and
lonely as you are must really suck and you have nothing to gain by being
that way. Nobody likes it and nobody like you, Steven Scharf.

Have a good life, Steven Scharf. This is my last post to you or about you. I
see nothing constructive nor will I further waste a minute more of my life
reading or replying to your personal harassment.

Ok, this is getting obsessive, I'm being a jerk now, but I can't help follow
this dirty trail of a troll called Steven M Scharf. I promise no more after

can help you to follow a trail to who he actually is and where this troll
resides. Seems he has been trolling for a long long time and has a admitted
history of "rating" items that he has neither owned nor used, including the
bicycles that he sells in California.

I googled Steven M Scharf, then added simple booleans like troll or cingular
(which he frequents that NG), which in turn led me to his bicycle website
and eventually quite a few aliases since 2002, possibly earlier.

The most intersting was simply googling his faux email ISP: linkearth.net
and only HIS name came up, which cross-referenced again, his bicycle
business. He even admits that he has never used what he posts about on his
site: "Since I have not ridden (or even seen) many of the bicycles listed, I
rely on comments from owners. " Must be ditto as far as all the other
products he slanders but has never used as well, like certain Canon camera
co. he has also bashed. I believ this all to be the same guy per Google
results and cross- referencing email addresses.

Question: '03 Ion electrical M. Halliwell 10:57:19
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and, if so, how they
have fixed it.

I've got an '03 Ion that very occasionally doesn't want to
start...battery has power, it'll often crank a bit over and then die
with the "service engine" note appearing. I suspect it is a loose wire
near the fusebox under the hood, but I'm not certain.

Any like experiences out there and any advice about where to start to
confirm and/or fix?

NO, it's called "disclosure". Most dealerships hit you with some kind of
closing fee or doc fee and will hide it when you get into the finance
office. This place simply posted it on the home page - right up front for
all to see. Again, most places won't even disclose that they have this fee
and will add it in without your knowledge. This is not the only dealership
that has this on their website, btw, nor is it the only dealership that
charges some kind of closing fee. If you don't believe that, then go shop
Chevy and see what happens. But that's not the real reason you are posting
these nasties and then replying back to yourself, is it?

LW300 idles rough - EGR? Oppie 00:42:21
I pulled into my driveway and shut the car off. Something just didn't feel
right as the engine shut down. It had been driving just fine up to that
point. When the engine was started about 30 minutes later, ran like crud.
RPMs were all over the place and sounded awful. At high idle things smoothed
out so I figured was not a critical problem. Engine was still hot and no MIL
light yet.

Decided to drive to my buddy's to use his scan tool and try to figure what
happened. The trip is about 8 miles and on a straightaway, I opened up the
throttle (really stomped it). Ran at about 6000 rpm for a few seconds,
remembered that there was a speed trap ahead and slowed down just in time
(whew!). Came to a stop light and was expecting the engine to be bad again.
Dropped down to a smooth idle at 550 rpm and has been fine ever since. Never
bothered to read out any codes but I will assume that something got lodged
in the EGR valve and kept it from closing properly. There were no external
vacuum leaks I could find.

Opinions please 2008 Vue with 4 cylinder engine Hang_Traitor_Democrats 21:36:46
My daughter is looking at the 2008 Vue with 4 cylinder engine. She wants
the 4 because of the price and fuel economy being better than the 6. We
have driven it and know it is not peppy like a 6, but willing to
tolerate it because of the extra gas mileage.

What are your opinions of the vehicle as an owner?

Daughter is a bit concerned about the four banger as she us afraid the
engine and transmission will wear out too quickly.

So owner opinions are appreciated.

Also, I noticed that some people on this group claim they negotiated the
price on the Saturn vehicles. I thought Saturn did not do this so what
is the secret?

Need "roof container solution" for camping with SW2 wagon Ouroboros_Rex 04:34:44
Hi all, I am looking around for a stowable (probably fabric or vinyl?)
container I can mount on top of my '96 SW2 wagon to carry camping gear on
long drives. It needs to be waterproof, not just resistant, and something
like 15 cubic feet. It needs to be stowable because I have nowhere to store
a hard shell one.

Also trying to find a roof rack to mount it on if necessary, my wagon
doesn't have one yet.

Google hasn't been very helpful due to the massive number of
possibilities, does anyone have any specific recommendations? Thanks in

Thanks - Re: Opinions please 2008 Vue with 4 cylinder engine Hang_Traitor_Democrats 19:53:10
Thanks to all for the suggestions and opinions. Last night we went to
two dealerships to try and buy the 2.4L Vue. The difference in the deal
between the two dealers was - believe it or not - about $1,000. One
dealer offered $800 more on the trade-in than the other dealer and gave
us more options on the Vue versus the other dealer. So we went with the
much lower priced dealer and bought the Vue. Got more for less. Taking
delivery tonight.

This is my daughter's third Saturn. She currently has a 2002 SL1. She
had a 2000 SL1 and totaled it. We were amazed at how well she was
protected in the 2000 during her single car crash, so we bought another
one in 2002 to replace the 2000.

The good thing is now that she is out of college and on her own, the
loan is in her name and she will be paying for the Vue. She and I had a
lot of fun over the past week looking at different vehicles and she
learned a lot about the car buying process and how some dealers scam.
She also learned the "fine art" of getting up and walking out when the
dealer and the buyer cannot achieve a meeting of the minds.

When we at GM discover an epidemic costly flaw in our cars (like
casting flaws in our cylinder heads that will cause the head to
eventually CRACK); and before we become aware of the problem, tens of
thousands of cars with the flaw have gone off the assembly line to
dealers and customers
We withold that information (sending out a service notice) for as
long
as we can- so as to get as many of those cars affected, OVER the
warranty period. That way, we are not liable to cover the cost of the
repair or replacement and we are able to cut our loses!
Also: If a new car customer who has been taking his car to the dealer
for regular scheduled maintainance, CHANGES ADDRESS, and the dealer
fails to notify the company of the new address and because of this
dealer failure- we send out a service notice to the old address and
thus the notice never reaches the customer:
When the service notice is returned to us as "undeliverable"; we will
NOT make any attempt to reach the customer at his new address and
notify him of the service notice. We are not liable for our dealer's
failure nor will we take any action against our dealer for this
failure
in an attempt to compensate the customer, should he have been unaware

the notice and suffers a costly repair bill after his warranty has

We were very happy with our Saturn until the warranty ran out. As far
as I am concerned these lemons have built in flaws. With only 56000
miles and a dedicated maintanance regime we now face a $4000.00 repair
cost for replacing something on just about everything. Speed sensor,
transmission valve and a computer overhaul. We thought we had made a
good choice when we bought this car 6 years ago. My wife loved it. We
were treated great by all the staff at Saturn and it seemed to us that
we were getting a fine automobile......Then the warranty ran out and
so did all the friendlyness. We now face a bill almost 1/4 the size of
what we paid for it originaly. We are going to do the minimum to get
it running and dump this turkey. We have started looking around for a

(But I doubt they are.)
Weaknesses:
Constant problems with the air conditioning.I bet you've read that one

Hello,
I also am very frustrated with the integrity of the
saturn car dealership here in Holland, Michigan. I
have been on top of every check-up in the 43,000
miles of my car's life. I own a 2003 Saturn Ion. On
January 28, I took my car in because my coolant
light was on. They couldn't find a leak doing a
pressure test - so then they topped off my coolant
and told me I was okay to drive it. 4 weeks later,
my engine is overheating and upon inspection, they
let me know that my cylinder head is cracked and my
engine needs to be replaced. 43,000 miles!! I did
everything to the "t" as far as car upkeep: oil
changes, 30,000k tune up, tire rotation, fluid
check, etc... and the Saturn of Holland, Michigan
aren't owning up to their role in this mess nor am I
getting anywhere with the customer service rep. at
Saturn Inc.
Do you have any advice/tips to pursue this further
or get someone to own up to the poor quality of
service and the horrible products they are making?
They told me that I probably had a 'lemon' - that
one car that was made on a Friday afternoon before
the weekend ---- and the engine was probably faulty
from the start.
Thanks in advance for getting back to me about this.

Re: How do you remove the Power Steering Pump on a 1998 SL1? =3FCronus=3F 19:12:02
 In article <02d8aebd-c160-4178-affa-

I'm putting new valve stem seals on my 1998 SL1. Its turning out to

Reason?

be a lot more difficult than I anticipated. The first major problem
was removing the crankshaft bolt. After wrestling with it by hand, I
read about the starter trick. That didn't work either. Then I found a
post somewhere that said the best thing to do is cut the flange off
the bolt. The flange on the SL1 is not very large, but the washer is
huge. I cut into the washer with a Dremel tool, but not completely
cutting it off, so the pulley wasn't damaged. I guess that was enough
to relieve most of the torque and it came off fairly easy after that
using the breaker bar.

Its difficult to remove because its held by a loctite around the flange.
Try a torch next time...

I've now got the top motor mount, belt tensioner and idle pulley
removed. But, I can't figure out how to take the power steering pump
off. I've taken off two of the bolts on the pump's bracket that go
into the timing chain cover. The third bolt is not accessible because
the pulley on the PS pump is blocking it. Removing the pulley would
allow access to that bolt. But, I don't see any obvious way to take
off the pulley. The repair book I have doesn't give much help on this
removal.
Can someone explain to me how to remove the PS pump?
Thanks.

Rotate the pulley to locate bolts through the holes in the pulley...

If you're doing all of this because of an oil burning issue then you are
likely going about it in the wrong way.
