Button by Shifter

Andrew Stone via CarKB.com 23 September 2005 04:09:09
OK, when I bought my car, it didn't come with any manual, and I haven't
been able to afford one. I only had one quick question. There is a little
switch/button on the lower right hand side of the shifter. I believe it
switches from Perf to Norm. Does anyone know what this button/switch does?

Thanks, Andrew

This question was asked about a month back and there were several good
explanations that were posted. Use Google and search the news group
archives for the long versions, but the short of it is that the
"performance" setting changes the shift points to be at higher RPM, more HP
and less fuel economy.

You can get a replacement owner's manual from Saturn parts or order online
from www.helminc.com (use the yellow 'Aftermarket' link).

Some portions of the owner's manuals are online at saturndan.com

I have 1994 Satrun SC1 which also has the switch with "norm" and "perf" which obviously stands for "normal" and "performance". I know this car from front to back, inside and out. A small button on the console allows the driver to choose between performance and normal driving. In the performance mode, the transmission's shifts are delayed slightly while the engine revs higher. Now with my expirience with this "performance" switch, the transmission hunted between gears while in the performance mode, making shifting a bit awkward at times.
