1988 9000T ACC Temp Sensor Problem?

Doninsbca 27 April 2005 00:20:54
The ACC gives no heat until I set it to "HIGH"; I think the temp
sensor circuit is not working properly, perhaps telling the ACC unit
that it’s warmer in the cabin than it really is . . . . so even at a
setting of 82 degrees the ACC unit puts out cool air (usually outside
air).

Got any hints? Is this fixable easily (ie: inexpensively) or is it an
ACC problem that will require replacing the entire ACC unit?

I had same problem on my '96 9000. I think it was caused by the air sampling
fan in the dash having stopped. Since I 'persuaded' it into life again the
ACC is behaving normally again (so far). See posts back in March.....

Yup, fan sucks cabin air over a sensor and over time the fan gets gummed
up with dust and all the other airborne rubbish that floats round..

You need to remove the ACC control panel and then withdraw the fan
backwards out of the dash and out through the hole left by the ACC
panel, un-plug, clean and give the bearings a dash of lubricant (not too
much mind otherwise the dust will stick in no time!). Put everything
back and congratulate yourself on having saved 50 of our English pounds
- not sure how much one costs in the colonies.

While you are at it, do a re-calibration (hold down AUTO and <=> on the
controls), sometimes that fixes problems. You should end up with a zero
showing at the end of the re-calibration before the display returns to
the set temperature, any other number indicates a fault(s) and most
likely means a trip to a dealer with the diagnostic kit.

Cheers,

Andy
(missing his '94 9000 but loving the 2000 9-5 estate that replaced it
last Saturday!)
