weird SAAB problem

Cspeier 24 September 2007 20:35:03
 Hello

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5. When I hit the night button on the display
panel, all the guages go dead. All but the speedo drop to zero. When
I turn the button back on, they jump back up. Any clue as to what is
going on? Computer going bad?

Thanks
Chad

That's what it's for. At night everything you don't need goes dark, if
you've got that turned on. If you need to see something (fuel low,
warning condition, whatever) then that instrument turns on. It's an
ergonomic thing they learned from building fighter jets - don't bother
the pilot with information that they don't need.

The button should have "Night Panel" on it..?

When you hit the night vision button, the only thing that should stay lit up and properly functioning is the speedometer. The idea is to make the instrument panel less distracting for the driver when driving at night. Apparently the only thing you really need to know if driving at night is your speed... according to Saab.

I have the same night button on my 2001 SAAB convertable. I think the button is doing exactly what it is suppose to do. It kills many of the gauges on the dash in order to decrease the distraction of the guage lights.
