87 944s

T.W.Spencer 14 April 2005 15:50:17
 Good day to you all,

I have several problems with my 944s (owned 4 years, 140,000 miles), they
may all be connected????

(1) the alarm system: when I first got it, the prior owner did not have the
key the fit the lock on the right quarter. He told me that if I hear the
alarm ticking in the right foot well, to open the hood and touch the alarm
horn with it's wire and that would clear the alarm. Well that worked for
awhile. I then got a new 1/4 alarm lock and that worked for a few weeks. I
then installed a on / off toggle switch to the alarm wires to the 1/4 lock
and would flip it back and forth until the alarm stopped ticking and it
would start. This has worked for the past few years (summer driver) but is
getting less reliable.
I would like to eliminate the alarm from the system. Unplug it and cross or
jump what connections?

(2) two years ago the central locking would lock the doors by it's self with
the car on or off and would lock and unlock while I was driving. I installed
a new central lock switch but it still dose it. I also noticed that I was
having a problem with the key in the driver's door handle lock cylinder. The
key no longer works in thee driver's side, fine on the passenger's side.

(3) last summer the motor would shut off while driving. I would turn the
ignition key off and back on, while driving at speed, and it would run
again. This was a bit disconcerting, so I put the up until now.

Help would be appreciated, Tom.

There is a product on the market called ACF 50. It is a liquid that
comes in a spray can as is used on aircraft and aging radios etc to
revive the metal to metal contacts and prevent corrosion. I use it on
all my cars and airplane, especially the electrical connection plugs.
You might try some on the plug going into your Porsche computer. Also
does wonders for aging plastics. Sold by WagAero on net. Do a Google.
Great stuff! May cure your problem. It is not like WD 40 which is a
simple lubricant.

just disconnect the alarm per instructions in porsche manual - DL manual
from web

check dme relay, check contacts in the central electronics - I've had
trouble there
check and clean all connectors to everything
check engine ground strap (connects to firewall from back of engine
