| Solstice thoughts? Blank 05:43:18 |
| | What do you guys think of that new roadster? I'm either gonna buy an 06 miata, 06 solstice or an 05 S2k....
I hate the looks of alot of the other pontiacs (grand am/prix) but I love the way the fronts look on these babies.

| solstice -- any opinions? Gerard 05:39:23 |
| | I ordered a solstice on Halloween. I,m now having second thoughts about going through with the purchase. The car I ordered is black on black with every option available except for monsoon sound system, which I would not get any use out of. Driving an open top roadster with a stick should be enough fun in itself. Loud sounds will only detract from the real pleasure. I drove 2 Solstices at a dealer in New Jersey in January. Both cars were cancellations. One was actully returned with about 200 miles on it. It seems the woman never drove a stick and had trouble adjusting to. She was also, I was told,a good friend of the dealership's owner, hence, she was able to return the car. The dealership would not discount the car one cent, though. Funny thing is this car handled and drove better than the can with 3 miles on it. The biggest problem I see now with Solstice is the fact that you and your significant other can't even take a weekend trip with the car with the top down unless you want to hold you bags on your lap. OK, to the point.Does Solstice possess the ghost of the Fiero? Will the car eventually be discontinued for lackluster sales once the diehards have gotten their cars? (remember the new Thunderbird?)Should I cancel my order and wait for the turbo model? By the way, Consumer Reports did not like the solstice (April, 2006 Auto Issue). But to end on a positive note, I'm 6 feet tall and I did fit comfortably in the seat,so Jason, you are wrong.

You will need a blow torch as well as a grease gun.

| | Thanks for all the replies. I havent gotten a chance to do a tune up, but the thing runs great. I think I found out why it is getting 17mpg though ( I still think I can get better). THe other day I was riding in the car with the wife driving, as she FLOORED it, she says "boy I cant wait for you to tune this thing up, gas sure is getting really expensive"

| Re: Whats a good procedure for ridding an air-lock? 95 sunfire Guest 05:14:12 |
| | Did you figure it out yet? My car does the same thing - see overheating post - I 'googled' my problem and it still sounds like the head gasket. But you said you changed that so now is it a cracked head? Sorry but read what it says on google and maybe you'll see your options. My car's heater core gave out and it overheated the engine big time - so I guess I have a blown head gasket - parked the car.

| valve cover oil leak Matt 13:09:31 |
| | I'm having trouble stopping an oil leak from the front valve cover on a 1994 3.8 Bonneville. The oil seems to seep down and end up on the exhaust manifold which causes a lot of smoke, depending on how long the car sits. Are there any secrets to installing a new gasket? Should I use a sealer? Thanks

| help with car not starting Jennakay 06:24:12 |
| | I have a GrandAm and left the lights on overnight and woke up to a dead battery. A two truck came and towed me to a nearby garage where they installed a new battery however, now the car wont start even though it never had trouble before. I am short on money at this time and can't afford diagnostics and wondered what could cause the car not to start.

| | i have a 1996 pontiac grand am with the 4 cylinder and 4 speed automatic. when the convertor is in lock up some(most) times the trans seems to skip a little shudder mostly. when i raise up engine speed just a hair 100-200 rpm the shudder goes away and seems to be ok. i am thinking the convertor is going bad. would i need to look at the tcc solenoid in the valve body? |

| 1986 Grand Prix heater core? 69Rocketman 21:07:02 |
| | I have an '86 Grand Prix and I've recently had to start using the heater again. When I turn on the heater, steam comes out of all vents and it smells badly like anti-freeze. Is my heater core gone? How hard/long of a job is it to change out? Should it only be done with new replacement parts. or is a salvage yard a good place to look for one?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Duane

98 Grand Am with broken A/C plug Hollis 03:38:41 |
| | A couple friends and I recently replaced the radiator in my wife's '98 Pontiac Grand Am. We must have inadvertantly broken a small white plastic plug on the front of the A/C compressor. It is broken off the compressor, so I can't just go get a new one. Someone told me it was only some kind of thermostat, and that I could just jump/connect the two wires together and it would work. Is this true? |

| Problem with 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix car stereo Guest 22:26:53 |
| | The treble, or high end, cuts out intermittently when I'm driving, or idling at a stop light. I've taken it to the dealer at least three times in hopes of correcting it. They replaced the radio itself, yet the problem persists. Furthermore, they could not "re-create" the problem - so no action was taken. Apparently this is typical, no wonder GM is losing market share.
Rather than take it in a fourth time, I have opted to take it to a car audio shop to fix it. At this point, with the less than satisfactory service from the dealer, I am ready to pay for this problem to go away. Anyone else have the same issue?

| | well ive been lucky enough to have had my intake manifold gaskets replaced on my 2000 grand am gt. i also had front/rear brake servicing and fuel filter replaced and blower resistor.
my car is now having "pinging sounds". i called the service guy and he said sounds like a possible "Vacuum leak". What the heck is this? I spent close to $2000 and am not going to spend anymore.
car runs smoothly, no other problems except the constant pinging while in idle and driving.
any help would be much appreciated.

| Re: Vibe - bought one!!! Robert 05:14:28 |
| | "Thomas" <gadget99@webtv.net> wrote in message news:17796-4467FF0C-495@storefull-3212.bay.webtv.net... I was in the market for a Vibe. Love the looks and the versatility. Drove it, Thought it was a little noisy, ruff riding and didn't like how the steering wheel was so far away also have yet to see one with a power drivers seat. Then I test drove a '06 Grand Prix and thats all she wrote!!! I found it very comfortable, quiet, very responsive and with just the base model, which is the one I got, had all the toys I wanted including a POWER SEAT!! As for MPG I got 26.5 MPG with city/highway driving. Sure it will get in the 30's with only highway. I got a slightly used Hertz car there for saving a bundle on depreciation. Only had the car 3 weeks and loving it so far. It gets up and really goes when you romp the pedal unlike the Vibe that made a bunch of strained noise from the 4 banger and didn't seem to do a whole lot of moving. Now I'm not trashing the Vibe I do like them allot....but for me I'm a big guy and the GP just fit better and was really impressed with how quiet and comfortable it is, as was my sister. I like to do weekend road trips so comfort is a high priority for me.
Good luck and happy car hunting...
Tom
Thanks Tom!
I like the bigger cars as well, I drove a G6 for a week, and it was sweet.
I got one in Black, and while the engine isn't super powerful, IT BLEW AWAY THE DODGE CALIBER I drove an hour before.
The Caliber was unpleasing to drive.. It was horrible.
Got in the Vibe, total difference in quality. yes, it was more expensive, BUT.. light years ahead in build quality... The brand new Caliber I drove was making a lot of vibration noises from the interior bits. However, the engine was SUPER quiet in the Caliber compared to the Vibe.
The Vibe has everything I need, and no, I don't believe they ever have, or ever will come with a power driver's seat. I like things all manual, except the windows of course.
Nothing will beat the Vibe (in GM lineup) for fuel economy, so, that's why I stuck with the Vibe. The Chevy Aveo and Pontiac Wave (I dunno if they sell the Wave in the US, do they??), aren't as good, and are smaller than the Vibe!!
I call my car the Vibetrix. I haven't picked it up, the ink is still wet on the paperwork (but I'm pre-approved for the finance).
sweet ;)
Thanks!! Now I'm feeling the Vibe!

| My car hates water Travis King 03:06:53 |
| | My 1988 Pontiac 6000 (2.5) is having yet another dilema. It hates water, every time it rains, water gets in the car all over the place. Through the windshield and through the doors. We've tried sealing it, calking it, new stripping, and so on. While they fix some leaks, new ones are created and the fixes are only temporary. Now it's gotten more severe. I washed my car today in our driveway and I heard a tinkling noise as if something were filling up with water. I bet you can't guess what it was. My driver's side rear door is filling up with water. (The car is a 4-door) How quickly will the door detiorate, and would it be wise or would it be a mistake to drill holes at the bottom of the door for the water to escape? The only thing still left on this car that's good is the body, and I'm worried that this will now take the last good thing left on the car. While I know it's kind of general, any estimates on how much it would cost to fix the leak? I know it's not a lot of information, but any clues on where the water could be coming from? I don't think the water is escaping, although a little bit of water was on the floor of the car in that seat too. Even later this evening when I checked the door, I heard a slushing sound from the door. Thanks.
