Fluctuating Guages

xcenture via CarKB.com 13 April 2005 17:36:00
 Hi All,

I have a 1996 Grand Am. The speedometer and odometer in my car are
fluctuating erractically. They raise and come back to their position with
in a second. Initially all the lights on the dash board used to blink
during the fluctuation and now the lights are ON and solid. Can anyone help
me locate where the problem is. Thanks.

My 95 was doing the same thing. I removed the gage cluster and wiggled the
clips that hold the flex cable to the cluster. After reinstalling it works
good.

I have a 94 GP that does something similar when the turn signal is on. Does
anyone think it may be a bad ground or connection somewhere? I changed the
alternator at 113,000 miles thinking that maybe the regulator was bad.
