Just found out what the G6 name stands for

Its very interesting how Pontiac now names there cars, it is also perplexing
as to how the names a secretivly attached code in a way that only Pontiac is
supposed to understand. Well low and behold as you know nothing can stay
secret in this country for long. Originally the G6 was to be called the G10.
As you know the G stands for Grand as in Grand this or Grand that. The 6 is
the code.
As mention earlier it was to be call the G10and 10 being the code. When it
first appeared on the drawing board the G10 was to was to be the car that
America wanted, style performance and dependability. A car with 10 out of a
10 star rating. As the car slowly began to take form, the style changed,
they took away this and took away that. What you ended up with is a plain
car, gone was the original styling and performance. A 200 hp base model car
cannot be called performance when others in its class are putting out 250+
hp. Pontiac soon realized that they had not built a car worth 10 out of 10
stars but more like 6 out of 10 stars, thus the name G6.

I thought it was ment to symbolize the 6th Generation Grand Am. Just
that Pontiac wanted to stray away from the Grand Am name hoping to fool
people into believing its a new car.

The new Corvette is referred to as a C 6.

Its very interesting how Pontiac now names there cars,

The "G" came from Grand Am and the "6" came from it being the 6th-generation
of the Grand Am.

GM has been having this obsession with killing off old tried and true
nameplates and replacing them with unrecognizable dumb names. Looks to be
working real well, the G6 is selling about half the production of what the
Grand Am was selling! =p

To be fair, GM has not produced either the 4-cylinder nor the 2-door G6,
so you can't really compare sales of the Grand Am to the G6 because it
isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. Another bungled GM launch...
