| | Greetings... I just recently aquired a '96 Bonneville from {censored}... it's in decent shape... has only 122k miles...
When I got it, it had the "Security Light" on.. never have figured out what that was... only thing I can figure is it might have something to do with the radio, as the radio's clock and display don't work at all... I have tried the suggestions about cleaning the keys and such... no luck... but anyways... thats not the reason for this post...
Just about two weeks ago I had a bad gas leak... turns out one of the elbows coming off the tank (sending unit??) had a small crack in it... well I got that repaired and all was good until about 3 days ago... my girllfriend was driving it and she said it started to "loose power" and sputter and she said it smelled "hot"... then the check engine light came on... well I drove it that same day and there was no noticable loss of power or sputtering... no "hot" smell... and the temp gauge stayed in normal operating area.... But the light is still on So I pop the hood and check the fluids... power steering was real low... and the coolant was kinda low... nothing big... So I refilled them both... but that didn't do anything... all the other fluids are good... however... light is STILL on... can't seem to see why as there appears to be no sign of anything wrong...
SO my question is... how do I check this out without taking into the dealer and them charging me $300 to tell me that I need a new gas filter or something... lol... I remeber on my old car I could get a "key" from Auto Zone and plug it in somewhere and the "codes" would flash on the light and tell you what was wrong... then all you had to do was look up the codes.... any help would be great... |

malibu (i know not a pontiac, but basically it is a grand am with a chevy

| | I recently brought my '02 Pontiac Grand AM GT to the shop. The first issue was my "service engine soon" light. It had come on after fueling up the car, and the second issue was that whenever I would use the air conditioner, the locks would continuously click back and forth - but only as long as the a/c or the heater was on. There is obviously something wrong here. Well, after spending almost a $1000 in replacing three sensors on the car, the problem still hadn't been resolved. I was wondering if you could help me in finding a replacement ac/bcm relay block - since this is the fuse that constantly blew out. I don't know much about cars, but I do know that it is annoying not to be able to use your air conditioner on a humid day nor to be able to use your heater on an extremely frosty/cost morning. I own a 97 grand se that wont start.The key goes all the over to the
start postion but the engine wont turn over,it does draw odd the
battery and the lights go dim.I had this issues before and it was fixed
under the recall 02008 I think is the number.When I use my remote
starter switch the engine fires up and runs fine.This is the kicker the
repair that was done to the car was just a little over a year ago july
14 2005,and the dealrship told me they parts only had a one year
warranty them.Here is the big question what are the chances of the
parts they used to fix it before have worn out? Any insight would be
gladly received.

| | Ok, This may sound silly to some but i am having a real problem!!
Here goes, bought the car less than 1 month ago for my son. He has a
new stereo system installed 7/25 on 7/28 stops for gas and car will not
restart. Problem is I think it is the VATS system telling the car not
to start. We "jumped" the starter/sylinoid and it started up and ran
for about 5 seconds. But it will not start with the key. I have read
countless articles on this same problem but no real solutions. We have
also had 1998 firebird that did the same thing after stereo was
installed. Each time we have paid to have stereo professionally
installed. Also on the 1999 the installer said that he disconnected
alarm system because fuse was bad and we did not have clicker to
activate. On the 1998 took to a dealer and they charged $400 for a new
ignition. I do not have the funds or the want too to keep replacing
these things, is there any way to remove it completely? I would
appreciate any information.

| | No it is not the tires or rims, replaced both axles and hubs, changed
top motor supports and lower motor motor, replaced tranny mount, even
changed spark plugs, wires and coil packs. The car starts to vibrate at
35 mph especially going up a hill, then mellows out after around 45 but
you can still feel the vibration but not as bad as at 35 mph. I have
had it at a GM dealer and they are scatching their head. The car has
110,000 miles, now they are telling me it might be the planetary gear
in the tranny, the tranny was rebuilt at 77,000. Has anyone out there
had any problem with their Grand Prix?

Hello !
I have a 1996 Cavalier and when you put the brakes on you have to make a
correction with the steering wheel to the right. I've put new pads and
rotors on it, the calipers aren't frozen.
When my daughter drives in the driveway and applies the brakes you can see
the right wheel toe in little and I guess that is why you have to steer
right to correct for that.
When you lift the car and hold the wheel you can feel a little slack when
you rock it horizontially. It's not the rod end. The other side doesn't
have as much slack?
Anyone have this issue ? Is there an adjustment in there steering gear unit
?

I went and parked it at wal-mart parking lot in my town two hours later i went to go pick up my girlfriend. my car was just turning over and over not firing at all. Ok so I thought that it was the spark plug wire that was bad so i changed it then and there becasue i had the new one in the car. the car would still not start. 20 minutes later i went to start the car it finally started i sat there and let it idle for a little while. i went to leave and the car made it maybe 20 feet before it died and wouldn't start again. so i pushed it in a parking spot and locked it up and towed it home the next day. when i got home i dumped some injector cleaner in the gas tank. i got the car running i took it and drove it up and down the road. it died later that day again and wouldn't start once again. i figure ok some one has dumbped something in my gas tank or there is rust in my tank so i put a full tank of premium gas and a can of sea foam in my car and changed the fuel filter. the car still dosn't really want to fire when it does it doesn't start. wehn it finally starts it barely runs u can ease into the throtel and it will rev up but if u go to hit the throtel hard it go blub blub blub and wants to die...Whats The Deal?? on top of that my heater core i guess blew out and now it pours water out of the hose your A/C drips out of. i have no money i need a car to get a new job i need a job to get the money to fix my car..so can some one just please please please help me with this problem i am having with my car.
