307 multifunction display Edwin 05:39:12
A lightning strike very near my 307 seems to have damaged the
multifunction display (clock, radio, computer). Does anyone know whether
the (much cheaper) 206 display will operate in the 307? Perhaps the
Citroen Xsara or C4 displays will also do? Anyway, the Peugeot part
number is 9646652577-0R00 and it is made in France by Ecran.

Thank you,

Ed.

Peugeot 205 driveshaft problem Planetman 22:40:43
 Hi

Recently my 205 1.8 turbo diesel was exhibiting the following problems:

1. Juddering clutch in first gear
2. A loud vibrating noise coming (I thought) from the gearbox area when
I slowed down in gear. The noise would disappear when I put my foot on
the accelerator again.
3. A knocking/vibrating type of noise from the front left area when I
accelerated, mainly in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear. The noise would stop if I
took my foot off the accelerator.

Anyway, I put my car into the garage for them to have a look at, and
the mechanic said I needed my passenger side front driveshaft renewed -
the whole driveshaft including both inner and outer CV joints. To my
surprise symptoms 1 and 2 above were cured which I was rather happy
about. However, the knocking/vibrating noise from the passenger front
area when I accelerate is still there. Before I get in touch with the
garage again, has anyone got any idea what may be causing it? If it is
relevant, I recently replaced my 13" steel wheels with 14" pepperpot
alloys from a 1.6 205 gti but put new lower profile tyres on to get the
speedo and gear ratios correct. As I said, the noise appears when I
accelerate but goes away if I take my foot off the gas, and is
definitely coming from the front left side.

Regards

Mark

Faulty CD changer ? Alan 22:28:01
 Hi,
I have just purchased a used Peugeot 206 for my wife. It as a Blaupunkt
factory fitted radio/cassette and a Clarion CD changer in the boot. The
bloke I bought the car from sais that the radio and CD player hasn't
worked for a while. I pulled out the head unit from the dash and
disconnected the leads for the CD changer and the radio works fine. If
I plug the cd changer back in the radio goes off again. The CD changer
as definitely got a live feed to it because when I insert the 6cd
cassette you can hear it whirring inside while it locates itself. The
seperate display on the dash gives a reading 'CDC Out'.
Any ideas why it's not working ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

Yesterday I did a round trip of just over 400 miles, mostly
dual carriageway and motorway and returned 54 mpg with the
air con on, I am absolutely thrilled. The car is a 406
estate 110 on a 02 plate. I don't suppose you long time Pug
drivers think this is anything special, but I think it is
amazing, particularly as I was running at 60-70 mph most of
the time.

BEST 2 LITRE(ish) PLODDER DIESEL .... ?? Alecalgo@Madasafish.Com 14:02:20
 BEST 2 LITRE(ish) PLODDER DIESEL .... ??
Any lovers of yr basic plodder diesel around ....?
...... fitted across a range of cars, it's said that the peugeot 1.9
diesel is one of the most sturdy and unbreakable diesel engines around
(in that size range) .... ?? if that is so why do we keep hearing of
all the head gasket probs to do with it ...? is it because it was once
a 1.5 or 1.7 litre and instead of developing a new engine they just
bored it out .... ? thereby reducing the distance between the cyls ..?
I am looking for an absolutely basic 5 to 7 year old diesel car in the
2 litre range .... definitely not turbo, definitely got to be a boring
and as simple as possible A to B'er.... Citroen Xara 1.9D perhaps ...?
... So ? ... any ideas on your best-last-forever boring 2 litreISH
diesel engine ... (gasket problems are the absolute pits, mostly
insoluble once started on the peugeot - cyl deformation as well as the
head) so perhaps not the peugeot .......? .... (you always get the same
excuse ...."well that's strange for a Peugeot 1.9 .... all I can think
is he's been thrashing it .... it you do that you wreck any engine !")
---------o0o-------------
PS .... been looking on the Automart site and I can't get it to work
for me ..? Unlike autotrader site (useless .... dealer cars and I
want private .... the sort that USED to advertise in the local papers)
it has a range facility. You put your post code in that field ...
tho' it only takes the first bit (i.e. BB12 ...I am prepared to go up
to 20 mile) .... so that facility is OK (if it works ?). But the two
drop down boxes to the left (make and model) don't drop down .... and
the page keeps coming back telling me to fill the fields in .... well I
can't if it won't let me !! Maybe it is because I am still on WIN 98
... and the page is too big .... still it does Ryanair and that's big !
Any ideas please ..?
cheers ......alec

307 auto tranmission - hard gear changes Tricky4000 08:34:22
Recently I took my 307 2.0lt in for 90K service and was told by the PUG

mechanic that the transmission required 1 litre of transmission fluid.
He said it happens every now and then. It seems to have softened the
gear changes but recently started doing it again. Can anyone tell me
where I check the tranny fluid level? Does it have a dipstick or level

viewer window?
Also, if anyone has any comments/suggestions or general info about this

problem, I would like to know more.
Thanks, Dan

406 collapsed suspension. Stainless Steel balls on the road. G Cadman 07:46:42
 All,
After returning from a holiday yesterday I noticed that the front suspension
on my 406 3.0 V6 looked low on the OSF. (the top of the wheel is about 40mm
into the arch) Having peeked under/behind the wheel I noticed that there are
a number (6) of Stainless Steel Balls ~3-4mm in diameter. When you pull the
car backwards it is not a healthy sound. Inronically if was fine when I left
it. Any ideas of what this is? I'm guessing that this will need to be lifted
back to the garage as driving it will mean more damage.
Thanks for your response(s) in advance.

G.

 hi,

just wondered if anyone could help me out, my 306 td has recently
started making a loud banging noise, especially the left rear, whenever
i go round a corner or drive on a uneven surface. could it be the
suspension, or some part of the rear suspension? it doesn't seem to do
it as much when the boot is full though.

any help whatsoever would be much appreciated

205 Tachometer installation Gabi Klein 21:39:51
 Hey!

I'm trying to install a tachometer into my '98, 1360cc Peugeot 205.
Model: 20AKD2
Engine Model: TU3FM

I cannot find the wiring to connect the tach too. (There is no tach in the
dashboard)

I've took apart the dashboard, and checked each wire, but without any
success - couldn't find the tach input.

I'd really appreciate if someone could direct me to the right direction...

Many thanks!

HDI ECU L4 Norm pinout TIH via CarKB.com 19:41:29
 HI,

My Peugeot 306 HDI from 2001 is not coveret 100% in the 306 Haynes manuel 93->2002.

In the Wiring diagrams they refere to ECU pin 19 but on by car thats K2 on
the brown connector (The VSS signal).

Does anyone know, where I finde the signal form the stop light switch on the
ECU, according to the Haynes manuel is should be Pin 48, but whats the
location on a L4 Norm. ECU?

 I have 605sli 2.0, single point mareli. (RDZ engine or XU10MZ) I can't
locate where knocking came from (hard and loud), but the clearance
betveen valve followers and cylinder head (not valve clearance) is to
big. I did'n measure but there is about 1mm difference betveen
follovers and cylinder head. Can anybody tell me dimensions of
follovers and diameter of its hole in the cylinder head. Tolerance and
exact diameter will bee more the good. I checked all bearrings in
engine and it is OK. I have haynes manual for citroen XM 2.0i (same
engine) and some other peugeot engines but that diameter is nowhere
specified.
Help, please :(

1999 406 tracking problem David Ex RPA 11:27:50
 I have recently bought a 1999 406 Estate (Diesel Executive 110
version). There is one irritating issue with it. It pulls in to the
left. So far I've had a 4 wheel alignment done on it and the vendor
*says* he has changed the wheels about without any change whatever.

The car has had a fairly adventurous life and appears to have been used
by someone like a vet, as it has obviously spent a lot of its time on
un-metalled roads. I checked the steering when choosing the car and
this problem was not present at the time. However the front coil
springs had to be replaced as well as some of the rear links and the
rear discs.

There doesn't appear to be any evidence of accident damage leading to
distortion of the car (at least to my fairly experienced DIY eye). The
problem is there under load and with the clutch out.

Characteristically, if you take your hands off the wheel on a straight
stretch, the car begins to pull left immediately, eventually setting
itself to a turn of about 4 or 5 degrees. On a curve on the A19 this
afternoon, I found that the car "set" itself quite happily and followed
it round until the angle of turn changed. It runs happily up the
camber on a wrongly cambered straight piece of road nearby, and will
pull in against gale force cross winds.

Help!!!

2003 307 1.6 16v gearbox problem Kocka 02:49:35
My 307, has this issue with the transmission/gearbox. The vehicle will
run normally if i am accelerating or keeping the car in constant speed.
If I decelerate, the transmission changes down (and this is normal).
After this the transmission cannot change up anymore. If I restart the
car then the transmission changes up normally until the fourth gear,
but if I decelerate, then the problem persists again, so the
transmission changes down and never will changes up until I restart the
car. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated as i have been
hassling with the car for more than 3 months and the local delaers
can't give a clue about this.

406 HDI Cabin blower problem TIH via CarKB.com 00:44:15
 Hi,

Hope you can help.

Here is the problem:

My A/C would not work when the car was holding still at an traffic light, I
found that the engine fan motor was 120% dead, changed it with a new unit and
also changed the Low speed fan relay, High speed relay and the Cooling relay.
Now during testing the new engine fan ran also when the cars engine is
running in idle, and the A/C worked 100%.

The next morning I took the car for a spin, and the A/C was on AUTO and
working, suddenly the cabin blower stopped running (and it has not run since).

I then checked and tested all fuses in the passenger and engine fuse box,
nothing wrong. I noticed that after this the A/C would not turn on, when I
pressed the A/C ON button, I did not hear the “Click” sound of the A/C
compressor coming on. I the un mounted the cabin blower, and connected it to
a 12 Volt battery, and it ran fine.

When the cabin blower is installed in the car, its DC supplied from a little
black box (control module), near the heat matrix. The box is then supplied
from the 12 volt main battery, when I measured the output from this box with
the blower disconnected (and the cars engine running, with A/C on), my multi
meter said app. 12 Volts, but with the blower connected it said app. 0 Volt.
Also with the blower disconnected I could hear the A/C compressor giving me
the “click” ON sound, and I could switch the A/C OFF and ON without problems,
but with the blower connected noting would work, not the blower the A/C
compressor or the engine fan.

I suspect that the cabin blower control module is defect, but it was working
fine before I installed the new engine fan motor, and relays. I have
disconnected the engine fan to see if this made the cabin blower work again,
but no.

Why does the cabin blower control module control my A/C compressor?

Or is it the A/C control unit in the car that is dead?

Can anyone please help with advice?

Br. TIH
