| 406 Throttle cable and water pump Juper Wort 19:55:32 |
| | Hi. 1999 406 2.0 petrol, unsure which engine code.
I have some free play in the throttle cable at the engine end. The cable disappears through some bracket & attaches to cam thing. I can see the spring clip adjuster thing on the ribbed bit of the cable sleeve, which is right at the end. I still have 10mm of play. The rubber grommet thing that the clip rests against is still there, and I have currently rigged up a bodge to take up the slack.
Is my cable stretching, or has someone put the wrong one on at sometime ?
also, how can you stop the water pump from squealing ? It quietens down after engine has warmed up, but the noise goes right through me until then ?

| | I have an intermittent problem with the speedo on my 406 Exec. this is an intermitent fault, when I am driving along it sometimes just drops to 0 mph until I get to above 60mph when it works fine, other times it reads ok for weeks on end before it has issues again . This leads me to believe that it may have a faulty connection or a lose earth somewhere.... but that is just my (usually useless) guess work. Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Nige

I have a Peugeot 307 cc 180. I also have an ipod and am keen to replace the factory fitted head unit with a new one that ipods can play through.
I also have a multi changer which I still want to use - hence my reasoning not to buy a connection that plugs in the back of the head unit as I will lose my changer.
Complicated I know! And to make things even trickier I would like to still use my paddle controls for the new head unit.
Any ideas on a reasonably priced head unit - or where I can find out? Halfords cannot advise! THERE MUST BE ONE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE!
I would be very grateful!

| | Hello Peeps,
April 2004 307 HDi DT went in for its 24000 mile service while I was working abroad.
All very professionally handled by local dealer with car picked up from home some time after my wife left for work. Later that day she was called on her mobile and told how much it would be. She paid by card over the phone and car was back home before she got in from work.
Couple of interesting things on the 'advise' section of the bill.
1. 'Slight oil leak from rear of engine requires further checks.'
There is nothing can be seen from looking in the engine bay and there is no oil drips from the car when it is parked overnight etc. Without putting the car on a ramp, taking off the bottom covers etc it's imposible for me to see a. where it is from and b. how bad it is.
Anybody else got an oil leak from the rear of the engine (that you know of cos it drips on your drive I suppose)??
2. 'Flywheel squeeks.'
The alternator was replaced under waranty about 5 months ago - it had started to make a whining kind of noise. I guess this has nothing to do with the 'flywheel squeeks' problem .... so anybody else been notified of a squeeky flywheel? If so what have you done about it?
Other than the alternator problem (sorted under warranty) I have to say the car has been absolutely trouble free for the 19 months we have had it in which time it has done about 12000 miles.

| | My peugeot 206 (year 2000, petrol model) has developed a misfire. i was driving along fine one minute then it started to misfire.
symptons: lack of power, poor idling and misfiring (sounds like fuel is igniting in the exhaust pipe but not loudly back firing out of the exhaust pipe)
I have re-newed the plugs, checked the valve clearances, compression tested the cylinders, checked that all the plugs are sparking.
Is there anything else i can check to rectify this problem before reluctantly taking it to a garage?

Got the above car and it has an issue with the indicators and also main beam. If i use the indicator stalk to turn on the indicator nothing happens unless i twist the 'cowl' that covers the steering column to the left slightly. After i have done this the indicators work fine.
I presume its just a loose connector or something but is this easy to dismantle and fit back together? Its getting a little annoying and was a bit dangerous until i could work out how to get them to operate.

| | I don't know if i am just unlucky or is it me. After 3 months ownership of my 407 from new, the left stalk that controls the indicators and lights broke. The bit on the end that controls the lights fell off.
This was replaced under the warranty. Now, a year later, the same thing has happened again. The stalks on the 407 are the same as those on other modern Peugeots, and indeed Citroens. A friend'sВPicasso has exactly the same design. So is this a common problem? Is there a design weakness? Or is it me? Or am I just unlucky?
This is the only problem I have ever had with the 407, which has now covered 13000 miles. I have never had a problem like this with any other car I have owned.

I have an 'S' Reg Pug 306 Meridian 1.4 - recently the engine temperature gauge has started creeping up above 90 especially when the engine is under load it creeps up into the red. The fans work OK and I can't see any leaks etc.
Got home last night, left the engine running on the drive, temperature dropped back down to normal 90 , noticed that whenever I put a piece of electrical kit on, the temperature gauge climbed instantly - switch it off then it dropped back again. With temperature at 90, I put the cold blower, rear heater, hazard flashers and main beam on and sure enough - up jumps the temperature needle into the red. Switch everything off....back to 90 again.
Any ideas ? Thinking its an Electrical problem, the Haynes manual wiring diaggram shows an Engine Coolant sensor and an Enginer Coolant sender - any ideas what the difference between the 2 is - I was going to replace one (or both).

I have a 406 2.0 HDi yr 2002.
My AIRBAG light has illuminated on the dash and when I start the engine "Airbag Fault" appears on the display.
Using Google Groups I gather this is a common problem.... however, as recommended, I have checked the connectors under both front seats and there is good connectivity between both sides of all connectors. So, this cannot be the problem.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

| | Hi Folks, I've got a Peugeot 306 Meridian, so it's one of the late style 306s (also, with air con). My heater fan works but has just developed an annoying noise - sounds like something is rubbing against it or a bearing has died. Can anyone advise roughly how to to get to the fan assembly ? Is it a complete dashboard-apart jobbie that's going to cost hundreds of pounds for a dealer to get to ?
Another question - I need to replace one of the two radiator fans. How difficult is that to access ? I've got as far as checking the fan relays once before so I know how to get that far by taking trim off the front.

| | I have a problem with my expert van 2.0 HDi, for the last month it seems to be very sluggish, poor accelaration. its bearable around town but on the motorway its realy hard to keep at any decent speed. in third gear it accelarates slowly then as soon as I hit 50mph it gets
a spurt of power, I have to take it to about 60mph then change to 4th again it slowly creeps to 70mph then it bursts into life and will go to
about 85mph plus . if i change to 5th it will keep at a steady speed, but if the revs go down (due to hills etc) it will not regain speed. I think it has something to do with the turbo charger. I would appreciate any of your oppinions before I book it in to be repaired..

| | Have an S-reg 406 I'm unable to start due to a faulty immobiliser -- assumed broken lead(s) to the keypad (it has a flashing red light and will not accept any input; doesn't even give an audio response to the keys being tapped). I can't see how to access the back of the keypad to examine the wiring. I assume it's possible to lift it off its cradle somehow? If I can woggle the wires around to get a one-off connection I want to then disconnect the thing. TIA, J

| | Hi guys - first time post. As with a few of the post here I also have a problem with my 106 in terms of its electrics. Its based around the radio - blowing fuses etc - buit it is an old car - 92/93 so there are little things going anyway!!! Sob. Since I installed a new radio I had a fuse pop everytime which was for the rear offside light - ended up disconnecting radio when I drove with lights on! Not the best of plans but all i could achieve at the time. Now I have a new problem that could be connected. I turned the lights on with radio connected and instead of the rear light fuse popping the main headlights refused to come on! Side lights are good as are full beam. I Disconnected the radio and checked fuses - all were fine, rear lights were fine and the warning noise sounded when i opened the door - same fuse i think. Now I am in a predicament that all my fuses seem to be ok (inside and under bonnet), the bulbs in the lights haven't blown yet i still do not have main lights!!! I though it could be some corrosion on the column but haven't checked that yet. Is it an earth issue with the radio casing, it must have had some earth or it wouldn't have worked no?? Earth issues elsewhere?? Any ideas guys - please i'm starting to feel like cinderella!
