| 306 charging problem Kali02@Ntlworld.Com 16:30:42 |
| | hi. Car is a 306 Turbo diesel P reg. Yesterday I noticed that the battery warning light was off when I turned the ignition, and its stayed off ever since except for the occasional stuttering dim glow.
1. Have taken voltage of the battery on its own = 12.45 volts (sounds OK). Same voltage is found the alternator - so I'm guessing no bad earths. 2. When car started voltage of battery drops to about 11.5 volts and will climb very slowly if nothing is switched on (otherwise it goes down steadily) 3. Voltage across the points at the alternator is 4.5v and climbs to 5 if engine is accelerating. But it doesnt seem to make much difference to the battery being charged faster. 4. When you switch the car off again the battery is at 12.2 volts and then climbs steadily until its 12.45 volts again (!)
I've checked the general cables coming from the battery (including cleaning the earth cable) but it hasnt made any difference.
What do you think is shot : is it the alternator or the battery? thanks

| 106 headlamp fault Russell McArthur7 12:20:29 |
| | Hi
Have a 106 which currently only one head lamp is working correctly, the other is dim, changed bulb and no change. i have seen in other posts that the dim/dip resistor needs replacing, is this a common fault, if so where is the dim dip resistor located and is it easy to change, other posts suggest relays may be a cause
cheers

| 306 seats not catching Sean 16:41:06 |
| | Hi all,
I have a 3dr 306 Turbo Diesel hatchback which serves me well.
However, if I lift up the front seats to let someone into the back, when I put them back down, they don't always catch. This means that the person in the rear gets a seat plus the weight of the person in front flying into their shins.
Is this something simple that can be fixed by tightening something up, or would the seats need removed to replace something?
The back seats are used rarely enough that it is sufficient for me to give sufficient warning to passengers, but it is annoying all the same!
Thanks, Sean

| Possible Radiator Leak Sean 14:36:56 |
| | Hi all,
I appear to have what I believe to be a radiator leak in my 306 Turbo Diesel. I have to top up my coolant every few weeks, and there is some greeny blue gunk on the radiator.
I really don't have a clue about cars and wonder if you guys could help me not get ripped off!
1. Is my diagnosis of a leak likely to be correct? 2. Is radiator sealant a viable option to repair this or is that just storing up problems for later? 3. Can a garage repair this, or does it require a replacement radiator? 4. How much is this likely to cost? 5. I passed my MOT last week, should this have been picked up?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many thanks, Sean

| Rims and tire selection Mariou 18:16:38 |
| | I recently bought a 307 XS 110HP 3Doors and I'm in love with it! I'll get it next friday and I have to decided by Monday/Tuesday whether I change the rims and tires consequently. It comes with 15" Apollo alloy rims mounted with 195x65x15 and I'm planning to change to 17" Challenger rims and mount 205x50x17. Whether or not to change it matter of how much I like the rims in the car and also how much I have to spend in this since I streched myself beyond my wildest dreams to buy this car. So it's a tough call but hey... life is today... and if not now, when? if not me, who?
Question 1: Is my pick on tire size ok? Should I go for 215x45x17? Question 2: My choices are Pirelli PZero Rosso, Continental Sport Contact 2 and Vredestein ultrac and sportrac. I'm inclined to go for Pirelli since this is a high range tire which I think got to be a great quality. I'm a big fan of Michelin but unfortunately they don't carry that size here (at least as of today). Any comments on these tires?
Many thanks people, Mario

| 40 mpg Prius vs 50 mpg European Diesel cars Guest 07:46:58 |
| | I noticed in Europe that diesels and turbo diesels are very common (eg Peugeot) with claims of 50 mpg mileage according to some owners I spoke to. They were pretty comfortable cars, too, just not as big as in the USA, though not tiny by any means, quite comparable to the Prius in size.
So, given the fact that a diesel engine is ~15% more efficient, mpg-wise, for the same horsepower than a gasoline engine, and that with a turbo diesel you can get decent performance AND high mpg, why the heck are the majority of cars in the USA still gasoline?
Is there some other factor that overrides the inherent efficiency of diesel? e.g. pollution? Is that really it? Or, is it just market inertia and historically low fuel prices relative to Europe?

| 306 xrdt MOT failure emmissions, now seized engine?? Pug78 17:14:18 |
| | Hi,
My 306 XRDT failed MOT on emmisions, reading 3.75 on the machine, Ii put in some diesel additive and took for a hard drive taking it up to the limitorin 3rd and 4th, when I had finished I was on my way home, slowing down it cut out and it is now dead, will not jump start or bump start, the engine will not turn over at all, the starter just clicks because it can't turn the engine over and when we tried to bump start it in 2nd gear when the cluth is released its like putting on the breaks,
...it had a head gasket less than 150 miles ago.
I was planning on MOTing it and selling it, now I think I will have to just give up on it an let it go for spares or repair.
any thoughts...
Gavin

Anyone know where the re-gassing points are for the A/C on a Peugeot 306? I'm going to buy one of those cans of DIY refridgerant (I understand Carl had some success with one), but I need to know where to plug it in...

| Fitting bigger engine in Phase 2 106 Guest 12:53:45 |
| | Whats the largest engine that would fit with the least modification into a 106's engine bay.
Currently i have a 1.1 Zest3 1998 106.
The GTi and Rallye use the same basic Shell as a Zest or a Independence as far as im aware so that would mean a 1.6 should slot in ok.
Has anyone heard of bigger engines being fitted into a 106 or even a 1.6 with a turbo or superchager on a larger than 1.6 engine? I know that: (pug-performance.com) fit such mods to gti models and rallyes.
Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advanced,
Rem

| 406 sri turbo petrol 1997 Guest 20:36:23 |
| | Can anyone give me a clue as to a problem I'm having with power loss. The car starts OK and there is no indication on the dashboard of any problem but...on acceleration over 2000 revs (usually in third gear) the engine begins to judder and lose power. The judder and lack of acceleration can be reproduced when parked but not so severe. Thank you for any help that may be out there!

| faulty MAP sensor?!! Kia37 13:29:21 |
| | Hi, It's been a while my 206's engine behavior used to change with any variation in altitude - the perfomance was significantly decreased as the altitude increased. Checking the ECU using diag2000, there was always a fault described as "STOP LAMP INFORMATION". Deleting the fault improved the overall performance and changed the exhaust sound too! After 1-2days the fault was back again. Finally I replaced the MAP sensor, put the original sparkles back (I had put SplitFire 3 platinum recently)and deleted the fault. WOW! it seemed
to be flying for the first day... Unfortunately the fault is back and the engine response keeps changing everytime I start the engine. It's even not stable in the same altitude
anymore! p.s. I have SuperSprint manifold + rear exhaust in place. There is only
ONE oxygen senor attached to the manifold and no catalyst convertor.
Any help appreciated,

| 306 alternator problem? Guest 00:23:54 |
| | How can I check whether the alternator is working ok?
Pulled up outside the garage after a 12mile journey turned off engine , opened garage door, engine wouldn't restart - seemed to be low batt volts (dash lights all dimmed). Had battery on charge overnight, started immediately this evening.
The battery is 2 year old (and was changed because of similar symptoms of not holding a charge).
If it is the alternator at fault is it a garage job or can it be changed at home? Any websites or info you could point me too?
Also are the diodes housed within it or separately? thanks
Geoff
