But diesel engine economy isn't affected by engine temperature - unlike petrol engines, they don't use more fuel when cold.

Buying a used car with a none-working temperature guage is a *bad* idea ! If you don't know to look for these things, then you should be buying from a trader.
and going into the red after a 3 mile or so drive, I presume the "sensor" > is part of the temperature measurment. I checked the coolant and there is > plenty, hope this is nothing serious, I only bought the car last saturday. > Maybe the sensor was unplugged deliberately to hide the over heating > problem ?> Any ideas what the problem might be ? Head gasket. Blocked cooling system. Duff waterpump. Could be any number of things. Never buy a car with faults, unless the price reflects them !

Coolant out the overflow funfly 21:46:30 |
| | I have a 306 diesel with 100k. When I the radiator cap is on tight I loss coolant out the over flowpipe after only a few moments of running, also if the engine is cold and not running and a squeeze a coolant pipe coolant comes out the over flow pipe. I have tried bleeding the system a few times but no improvement. The coolant system will almost empty it's self out the overflow pipe I have been running the car with the radiator cap loose to help reduce the coolant loss. There is no bubbles or oil in the coolant and the car starts first time everytime and runs normaly.
Its starting to drive me nuts, hope someone can help? |

| Peugeot 306 98 - Need code for radio Guest 22:39:40 |
| | I've just aquired a peugeot 306xsi 98 reg, but I don't know the code for the radio. It has the original Clairon stereo. I guessed the default code would be 1234 but this hasn't worked. Does anyone know the default code if this isn't it? Do you reckon if 1234 is the default code a Peugeot dealer can unlock it for me? I can't bear the thought of a car without music!! Aargh! |

I replace the batteries and tried the key to lock/unlock the car....it did nothing!!! Is there anyway to re-code this key back into my car's central locking system without involving exspensive garages???

| 306 TD Won’t Start - Electrical or immobiliser problem? Jj52 10:54:06 |
| | Hi, please help, I’m starting to go crazy on this one.
I’ve owned a 1996 306 TD for 7 years and out of the blue it won’t start, or even turn over. Once I’ve put the key code in the immobiliser both red and green lights coming on (rather than going green completely) but I’ve had the immobiliser checked and apparently all is fine.
Could there be something wrong with my ecu or with one of the circuits it checks on startup?
Although I had driven the car that morning and a few times one week before that, it has been standing unused for some months previous to that so I don’t know if that has had any effect.
I’ve already tried re-charging the battery and resetting the goes for trying the immobiliser code in case I entered the wrong one by accident.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, jj

| HDI diesel additive Brian 19:54:27 |
| | Just in case anyone wants to try refilling their diesel additive tank on models with the particle filter, you might be interested in part numbers. For early models pre vin 9491, using the Eolys DPX42 fluid, the Peugeot/Citroen part number for the 4.5 litre top up kit is 9979.95. Now the painful bit - cost today from local Citroen dealer, ё91.17 The later models use Eolys 176, and I believe the part no for that is 9736.86 for 3 litres.
