 Firehawk Race Tires Supplied: Firestone delivered 700 dry-condition
Firehawk race tires for use. All were produced at the Firestone Technical
Center in Akron, Ohio. Per IRL rules, Firestone brings a single
specification to oval events, assuring all competitors the same quality
race tire. Each car receives eight sets of slicks (32 total tires) for
the race weekend, to use as its team determines in the practice,
qualifying and race sessions. Firestone Racing engineers selected a tire
spec that has already proven its worthiness on the lightning-fast,
high-banked 1.5-mile ovals in the IndyCar Series. This identical Firehawk
debuted last fall at Chicagoland Speedway and returned to use in 2006 at
Homestead-Miami Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, and most recently at the
IndyCar Series open test at Kansas Speedway on June 13.

Racing on these high-speed, 1.5-mile ovals guarantees wheel-to-wheel
action. As we have proven at Homestead, Texas and here at Kansas at the
open test just a few weeks ago, the Firestone Firehawk tires are up to
the challenge. Because the racing here is so close, tires certainly play
a critical role as teams determine their race strategy and make those
split-second decisions that are all the difference between winning and
losing. Last year's down-to-the-wire finish saw Tony Kanaan and Andretti
Green Racing opt for fuel-only on their last pit stop - the ultimate
demonstration of faith in their tires. We are proud that we can supply a
product whose reliability allows teams to take such calculated risks and
run varying strategies, providing even more exciting racing and intrigue
for the fans."
