 WJ Opens Pomona Qualifying in 2nd

Warren Johnson had very little time to test his new GM Performance Parts Grand Am during the POWERade Drag Racing off-season, having received the chassis at his shop in Sugar Hill, GA only a week and a half before the season-opening Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals. In fact, as the crew had not even installed the parachutes before arriving in Pomona, WJ's first full-power pass in his new car would come during Thursday's first qualifying session at tPomona Raceway.

 WJ Opens Pomona Qualifying in Eighth

The 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season got underway on Thursday with a
single qualifying session at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with Warren
Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team looking to get the
year off to a fast start. Running in the left hand lane, WJ opened with
a solid 6.767-second, 204.88 mph pass, good enough for the eighth
position. With three attempts remaining over the next two days,
"The Professor" was confident of improving his starting spot
for Sunday's final eliminations.

 WJ Sits Seventh after the First Day in Pomona

Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team kicked off
their 2007 season in fine fashion on Thursday, opening with a solid
6.676-second, 207.56 mph run in the first qualifying session for the
Carquest Auto Parts Winternationals in Pomona, CA. This placed the
six-time champion in the seventh position, with designs of improving in
one of his final three attempts at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.
