Jimmy Vasser has confirmed that he will make a return to open-wheel
racing for the Long Beach Grand Prix later this month.
Vasser will run in a third car for the KV Racing Technology team in
the final race for the
Champ Car World Series, with the event taking place on the same
weekend as the IndyCar Series event at Twin Ring Motegi.
While Oriol Servia and Will Power will both aim score points towards
the IndyCar Series title race as drivers making the transition to the
newly unified American open-wheel series, Vasser admitted he was
simply looking forward to the event, which will signal the official
end of Champ Car competition.
"I been out of the car for two years, but it will be a lot of fun and
a great honour to take part in the Champ Car World Series' final
race," the 1996 CART title winner said. "It will also be great to
compete in front of all the southern California fans that have been so
supportive of me throughout my career."

It will be nice to see him out there one last time (most likely). Even
if he isn't running out in front, its nice to have a fare-well race.

I'm already getting choked up thinking about when they shut off those
engines Sunday afternoon.

In a way I thought I was actually perhaps a bad idea to run the Long Beach
grace this year under such difficult circumstances.

Seeing some comments from some people like Jimmy Vasser has turned me on
this issue, and I think the race is really a true farewell to something that
we witnessed of a very great nature. I now think that the Long Beach race is
really a great idea.

Like that story about those old soldiers that never die, but just fade away
in our memories, the Long Beach race will truly be a final closing out of
the lights of this amazing chapter in American racing history.

I suspect very close after that period of time, this newsgroup which has
been around for a good many number of years will also begin to fade away
into history much like those buildings that one abandoned and we see the
weeds and grass and trees begin to over take it...

I tip my hat to many of you here of whom I shared my passion of CCWS with.
No matter how we slice and dice this whole racing issue, losing champ car is
much like losing a friend of the family, and it's just we'll move on in
life, but will miss it every so often when something triggers a warm
wonderful memory of a summer day of racing that we had watching champ car.

It will be soon time to turn off the lights here, and it will be a sad day
to hear those incredible Cosworth engines sing and scream for the last time.

Thank you to everyone here that's posted and made this a warm and wonderful
place that I used to enjoy coming to almost every day. Of course in recent
years less and less people actually used newsgroups, and usenet, but this
place had some real haydays when champ car (CART) was simply one of the best
racing series that the world ever had...

Perhaps some archaeologist or person sitting in a museum in 100 years from
now will stumble upon this post, and like that cute frog in the bugs bunny
hour that hops out of the box 100 years later and begins to saying "hello my
baby...hello my darling....", there will be instant of enjoyment felt by
this person reading this of the joy we experienced over the years watching
this racing...

(here is that singing frog if you not seen him sing).

Anway... after long beach, last one out of here turns out the lights...ok...

I wouldn't mind seeing S. Bordais out there one last time also.

I wouldn't either, but I doubt his STR contract would allow it. Then
again, that would give him something to do in his off weekend before the
Spanish GP.
