Re: ExcuseFest 2009 Robert Lorenzini 01:19:59
 On Wed, 18 Feb 2009 16:15:28 -0800 (PST), sterling <sterlingla@aol.com> wrote:
The IRL's off-season (the 50 weeks after any Indy 500) is
a good time to ponder the coming season's excuses for
poor performance of the "League." The IRL, after all,
has been delivering everything they said CART wasn't
way back in 1995, so it remains an oddity that none of
the numbers (attendance, TV ratings) that measure
popularity or audience response are even close to
what they were when CART ran the series and was
the primary source of In
dy 500 entries.
ExcuseFest 2009 should be a good one. With the economy
in turmoil, this will be the primary source of apology from
our IRL faithful.
In the past, they blamed CART's continuing existence
as divisive, both to sponsor potential and to audience
interest. That surprised me, because according
to the book of IRL, America was craving an all-oval
open wheel series without hard to pronounce foreign
driver names.
America also reviled street and road course racing,
preferring an Indy 500 and series with roots in the
many dirt tracks throughout the country.
Even with the IRL charter intact and fully operational,
the annual ExcuseFest began. It has had a good run,
with CART's existence probably being #1 for most
of the 12 year run, with the emergence of NASCAR
as a possibly equal threat.
The NASCAR interruption of the IRL's rise to be
better than F-1 etc., is all the more amusing because
Tony introduced a NASCAR race to Indy, which those
of us pre-IRL Indy fans always considered open wheel's
hallowed ground.
Well, CART, OWRS, ChampCar are all history
now - finally bought out by the IRL itself. All
we can count on now (outside of the mega-media
outlet, Versus) are this darn economy,
and NASCAR as the best excuses for another
dismal (compared to 1995 and before) season.
Gentleman, start your excuses!

Honda's future? Dillon Pyron 06:26:03
Now that Honda has bailed out of F1, is there any chance that the IRL
is next?

I know that there was discussion last year about them possibly
entering NASCAR in 2010, but will there even be a NASCAR in 2010?

Dillon, long time no post! How are you? I hope all is well! Hope you
had a great
Thanksgiving and will have a wonderful Christmas. How's the diving?

I still a little dream of the travel business. Would love to still be a
travel agent. But, sounds
like the travel agent business is not too good right now.

Take care!

Racing Cals, Books, DVDs & More Anna Lisa 21:35:28
If you want one of the best, if not the best, Formula
One Racing calendars available I suggest you visit:

www.conceptsi.com

The action photos in this calendar are superb. There
are two great photos from the calendar shown on their
web sit.

Also, if you would like to purchase a copy of the
Autocourse 2008 - 2009 Yearbook - which is the
best review of the 2008 season available I suggest
you order it from them.

They have the book for $54.95 and their price
includes shipping and handling.

Plus, they also have the Formula One: 2008 Official
Season Review and the Le Mans: 2008 Official
Review DVDs.

Their "World's Greatest Race Tracks" poster is
excellent if you want to learn about the World's
great racing circuit and it is very attractive.

They have other racing books, DVDs and Christmas
cards as well.

All this will help get racing fans through the off
season.

They also offer MotoGP and other Motorcycle
racing items.

Christine

Laguna lap times Pe.Rhodes 18:17:22

After reading that Eddie Lawson won a SuperKart race at Laguna Seca this
year, I wondered how fast his Yamaha was traveling, but couldn't find
out! I even found a great web info site, but no bike lap times are on it!
However, I made a list up to show how fast it been done:
Superkart 2003 Kevin Schwantz 1:23:875
Superbike 2007 Matt Mladin 1:23:105
MotoGP 2008 Casey Stoner 1:21:488
Indy car 2007 Helio Castronevis 1:07:07
F1 Toyota (exhibition) 1:06:30
But how fast was Eddie going this year?

GRANDAM: Watkins Glen II: Frisselles brothers qualifying report Guest 01:39:37
Frisselles take twelfth at Watkins Glen in shortened qualifying session

Watkins Glen, NY (11 August 2005)-- Brian Frisselle was disappointed
to have his streak of top-ten qualifying efforts broken on Thursday as he
took twelfth on the grid for the CompUSA 200 with a fast lap time of
1:09.985-seconds on the 2.45-mile short course at Watkins Glen, but the
young racer knows his RX.Com machine is faster than the qualifying result
shows, and that he and brother Burt have a good shot at a strong result
in Friday's race.
