Motor stops when idle, any reasons why?

Nicolae Fieraru 7 May 2005 17:31:02
 Hi All,

I live in Australia and I have a Nissan Pintara T from 1991 (2.4 liters,
automatic) . From about three years ago the car developed some problems,
which consist in the engine stopping at idle. If I keep the foot on the
brakes at traffic lights, the engine stops sometimes. I notice this happens
more often if the engine is a bit warm.
I had it fixed once, the auto electrician replaced some sensor (idle sensor
or oxygen sensor, not sure about the name) with a second hand one. It worked
fine for about 6 months then start doing it again. Every time I take it to a
mechanic, he cleans the entry of some large metal body where the air goes
into the engine and the motor works perfect for a few weeks, then it start
doing it again. Sorry about the terminology, I am not familiar with the
names.
I just want to know if somebody is aware of some common faults of Nissan
Pintara which could cause this to happen.

Regards,
Nicolae

Well lots of things spring to mind you could try to change the Air
filter, spark plugs and possibly the spark wires. The
"under"presure (not sure about the english term) could be leaking
then your car would lose bit of power and stall easy when warm as the
ammount of oxygen is to much and your fuel mix is to weak.
Having the engena addjusted might help as it might simply just run to
slow in idle.
Just some thoghts from a felow Nissan owner

 Hi Almera,

I checked the air filter, it is clean, I changed it not too long ago. I
don't suspect the spark plugs or the spark cables, because when I drive it
feels perfect.
I know how an engine which runs in three spark plugs feels like. It might be
possible to have a low efficiency on one of the spark plugs, I don't know.
Maybe you are talking about gasket (under pressure), I don't know. It is
possible to run a bit slow, I don't know. I will have it checked again

Thanks for your help

Regards,
Nicolae
