AirBag Light Flashing

Zoom 1 May 2005 04:50:24
The light flashes at certain mileage intervals to have you head to the
dealer for a reset.
My 96 Altima has just started flashing again for the second time, first was
at 60,000 miles now at the 80,000 mile mark. In this newsgroup couple years
back some kind soul gave me a reset sequence that was applied at the driver
side door switch. Go figure, I didn't write it down and now I've got the
flashes again. I seem to recall it was a Tech who shared this little piece
of wisdom, anyone else experience this problem and recall the steps to
reset.
I vaguely recall depressing the switch for a certain count or number of
times with the ignition in the start or aux position.
Any help appreciated - this time I'll write it down.
Thanks,
Tom

It's not at set mileage markets. It's when it detects a failure.
www.maxima.org has the reset instructions.

You have an airbag system malfuction. You could be compromised if you
require air bag deployment. You need to take it in and found out why...

Have you disconnected the connector at all and/or removed the seats? If
not, Professor is right you should definately have the dealer find out WHY
it is failing. In the mean time, you could try this which works for 05
Xterra's. Don't know if it would work for your vehilce but worth a shot.
Saw this on the Xterra Owners Club forum a few days ago:

CAUSE: Disconnecting the plug that connects to the airbag light while the
ignition is on. This can be caused by removing the seats and/or installing
head unit (rare cases).

FIX: Make sure all plugs are connected. 2 plugs under passenger seat and
one under the driver seat. (For S Model, but I imagine the others are the
same) Doulbe check all connectections.

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position for 7 seconds
remove the key for at least 3 seconds. Repeat those steps 3 times and the
light should go away when you start the truck. (Or it may flashs slowly
after the sequence and go off when you start the truck later)

Thanks for the airbag flashing light fix, it worked perfect on my car.
