To Fix, or Not to Fix, That is The Question! stanza Whl. Bearing

Guest 18 April 2005 09:56:21
My 92 Stanza has finally developed noisy wheel bearings after 170K. My
mechanic says to turn up the volume on my stereo to drown out the noise
as the bearings for this car will cost me about $200.00 per
side, installed. What I need to know is how long can these bearings go in
this condition and what can happen as time goes on? The car runs great
and the body is in good condition. Also can these be salvaged from
another similar car in the junkyard? Hope to hear from you and thanks.

if your able to do the work yourself, i would think you would save about
$140.00, its not a very dificult job to do.

 400.00 bucks to do both,

sounds like a no brainer to me, the car has served you well for 170k miles
hasn't, it sounds like it is time to give a little back to the car that has
carted you around for so long.

If it were me I'd fix it, Stanza's are one of Nissan's better creations.

Don't have a stanza, (but I'm working on one right now) but isn't that a
cartridge bearing? If so, you will have to get it pressed in at machine
shop, not to mention pressing out the CV axle. Don't get used bearings,
they can leave you in the lurch again anytime they want. The bearings
are probably only $40-50 each new. Most of the cost is labor.
