I'm not one to usually chime in on these things.... but aside from the
Dale Jr. prediction all of your predictions are within (or very close
to) the average finish for those drivers at this track:

JJ's avg finish = 7.7
JM's = 10
MM's = 13 (with half his finishes being in the top 10)
JG's = 17.8 (also, half of his finishes are in the top 10)

You don't have to explain if you don't want to and it IS supposed to be
for fun. I hope you continue playing.

(and if you stray into gimmie land I'll steer you back to the straight
and narrow.... :) )

You just did play the game!

Arguing about how to score is part of the game ... ;o)

It is for me.

The "gimme" rule was instituted to prevent trivial predictions
("The race will last 500 laps. All the turns will be to the left.").
The standards for what is and is not a gimme have wavered
a bit.

And arguing about what is and is not a fair prediction or a
fair scoring system is part of the game. You've gotta fight
for those points!

If you don't want to do that, we've got a plateau with your
name on it not far from the summit of Moral Victory
Mountain, the place where losers go to seek solace.
... I don't >generate random numbers (neat idea Marty, wish I'd thought of it).

Mr. Random and I were doing OK until this week. Why he thought
Rusty Wallace would win is beyond me. :o(

I pat myself on the back even when I'm wrong. :-O
... I have no clue what I'm doing, and it's all just for fun anyway, >so WHO CARES?

Well, um, I would name names, but that might be immoderate
of me. Bob and Russ are gonna have to name themselves.

Excellent point!

I think the defenders of the game are trying to keep the gimme
window from getting open too far. Predicting that Jimmy Johnson
will be number one in the standings next week shouldn't be worth
a full RPG point. Unlike Moral Victory points, which are as free
as the air and just about as nourishing, RPG points carry some
weight.

Because they've been playing this game since last season and have ruled
against "gimmes" in the past. It's the precedent.

I have no interest in the outcome because I don't play the game.

I hope you keep playing. And I hope you do explain your predictions,
at least sometimes. It's interesting to me to know why someone
thinks a particular thing might happen. I usually put a couple of
words in to explain my picks.

Okay, here's my thoughts before I become a permanent fixture at the track:

1. Dale Junior top 10

2. Mark Martin top 10

3. Rusty Wallace 20th or worse

4. Jimmie Johnson has a better finish than Tony Stewart

5. Jeff Gordon takes the 11th place in points

Race Winner: Jeff Gordon (regardless of his notoriously bad record at
this track -- I think it's over due)

Bonus: Glare from Mom's sparkly, blue-sequined cap blinds one of the
drivers and causes a multi-car incident in Turn 4.
