Now even Kenny Schrader apparently thinks it's a good thing
to 'practice' before a Cup race. (provided he is 1 of 17 fastest.)
15 BWs + 4 others plan to take NBS Regulars' money away from them.

That should make NBS Regulars grateful to learn how to race against
Cup drivers. Funny thing is, Randy LaJoie bitched about the BW factor.
Now with a so-called full-time ride in Cup, he's Whacking too.

Someone recently wrote that the dominating Cup owners need to have
a place for their developmental drivers to run, so they now are
using their vast resources which happen to dominate NBS & CTS.
Roush, Hendrick, Childress, Gibbs, and to a lesser extent:
DEI, Ganassi, Evernham, Penske own all the competitive teams
in all 3 Series.
Petty, Davis, Wood Bros, Nelson Bowers & Cal Wells kiss it goodbye!

8 Owners Owning It All? Good or Bad?
Opinions are like aholes, it don't matter, bidness will be bidness.

"Opinions are like elbows--everybody has a couple of 'em."

I wonder whether F1 shows the future of NASCAR: just a limited
number of owners with only a few of them really competitive.

I don't like that trend.

Dunno how to stop it.

Money talks.

In fairness to Shrader, he's long been known to run in any series
that's going (including Winston West, Southwest Tour, ARCA, and
probably a couple of others), usually running a casr out of his
own shop (which must be just packed with different sorts of race
cars). When he's not driving, he's also known for letting various
young drivers show their stuff in his cars, and maybe get noticed
by a bigger team.

The history of the CART series would suggest "bad".

Not sure i like it either, but the problem with F1 isn't the limited number
of owners, it's the capacity of the rule set to allow one owner to run away
with it. If things were relatively fair, and 8 owners made up a 42 car
field, that wouldn't be any worse to me than 30 owners making up the same
feild.

Note that F1 has a strictly enforced rule of 2 cars per team
(where "car" in this case is defined as chassis; Ferrari is
allowed to sell engines to other teams). It's been many many
years since they've made an exception to that rule.

F1's recent problems run far deeper than the number of owners. The
main problem is the lack of competition in the past few years. It's
just not fun to watch a race where nobody passes anyone. Remember a
few years ago when they ran restrictor plates at New Hampshire and
Burton led flag to flag? The boredom of that race had nothing to do
with the number of owners. It was the lack of the ability to pass with
plates on at a track that size.

In my opinion, I'd rather have 43 cars with 8 owners, assuming they all
have a chance to win. In fact, it'd be better racing than we have now
with 5 or 6 cars that circle the track a few times and then drop out
with mysterious "problems."
