The sad part is that I thought I understood this new system until I read> all the details in here ~ now I'm just as lost as I was when they were> trying to determine provisionals under the old rules. On PCP-the one qualification that caught my eye was that a PCP-eligible>driver must have raced at least once in the previous season. If RW or MM>don't run a race in '06 but get the itch to run a few in '07 they won't>be eligible for that PCP.

Mark Martin could run all the races he wants in '06 and still wouldn't be
eligible to take a PC provisional-he's never won a championship.

Maybe all the above is accurate for Cup, but what about Mike Joy> stating that only 26 NBS teams are guaranteed a start in D300?> That was new news to me. CTS too a new qualification of only those> teams who ATTEMPTED all '04 races, NOT in '04 Top30!>

Well, the official Nascar.com press release page says otherwise.
Basically, the Top 30 teams are guaranteed spots in both series. That
means that (assuming all Top 30 teams actually show up each week) there
will be 13 spots up for grabs in each Busch race, and 6 in each Truck
race. I am ignoring the Past Champions provisional here, which
probably won't get used much. (Last year, Steve Grissom used it a
couple of times on the Busch circuit, but this year he starts out with
a Top 30 Busch ride.)

Here's the URL for the official Nascar statement:

And here's the URL for the Nascar page on my website, which currently
consists almost entirely of an article I wrote about the new Cup
qualifying rules.
