A easy way to stop the BIG ONE

Na$car should ban the extra reinforcement teams put in the nose of cars for
Daytona and Talladega.

If a driver bumps a car in front of them, the front valance and radiator
damage is all the penalty needed to stop the BUMP DRAFT.

Make the nose piece material 1/2 as thick as used today or out of a more
brittle plastic.

Perhaps a reinforcement bar that bolts near the radiator. Bang the guy in
front of you too hard break your cooling system.

Just a thought.

Not only would that stop "the big one" (maybe), but it would add some
needed skill to the racing. Drafting w/o touching the car in front of you.
I think it's a great idea.

Bump drafting didn't cause that big one.

What caused it was one car (the 48) getting a bit wiggly in a whole pack of cars
that can't spread out because power is restricted.

The easiest way to avoid the big one is to get rid of those infernal restrictor
plates. Then have the track (after all, ISC and NASCAR are basically the same
thing) install stronger catch fences and put the "hold harmless" legal
disclaimer on the ticket stubs in a typeface that's big enough to read.

NASCAR's afraid of a lawsuit if a car flies into the stands or parts from the
car fly off -- ha! When's the last time a baseball team was sued successfully
when someone was struck by a foul ball? It says right there on your baseball
ticket that *you,* the ticket holder, assume all liability.

Spewing water all over the track won't cause the big one, either.

The cars will be airplanes at that speed, they're just not aerodynamically
up to the task. Get a bit sideways or a bit of a bump and they're off...

Killing off a few more drivers by shredding their cars apart 15 feet over
the track on a giant reinforced catch fense won't be a better situation than
having "the big one".

Take down the banking a few degrees, or narrow the tires. Then just like
every other track, they will have to brake for corners. Voila, speeds are
reduced. Toss the restrictor plates out.

-Russ.
