Michael Waltrip's Best Drive ever

William H . Morse 2 May 2005 03:01:24
Anyone who thinks Michael Waltrip is not one of the best drivers
ever is a nitwit. I thought this race was a work of art. Team play,
patience, skill and being competitive was at an all time high. He
did everything he could to beat Gordon even if he didn't win the race.

Gotta give the 15 credit for helping Tony get up there for 2nd. It was
funny watching the metrosexual Mick Merry get no help when he tried to block
Tony and start his own line to no avail.

only if does not apply. race over.
Michael is a good driver, great competitor, smart and funny.
Gives it the best he can.
Only down side, he got few friends on the track that will help HIM.
He did have a good car today, but Jeff was the better.
If I was not a JG fan, he had my #2 vote today. He can run with them all.
To bad his wins does not reflect driving skills like they should.
I am not a DEI fan, but give the driver his props.

I laughed so hard reading this, that I got Dr. Pepper up my nose!

that stroker went 500+ races (a NASCAR career) before he ever won a race!

in FACT, he has only very recently learned how to drive, and not be the
leading wreck-causer in NA$CAR

a title he held for about 20 years, but it looks like he has turned over
that title to Mike Wallace over the past couple of years

I will say the little fairy at least does not cause wrecks every week like
he used to, but without DEI engines & crews & cars he would still be at the
back every week. At least he is no longer wrecking people, but geez, it
took him about 20 years to learn to drive in a responsible manner.

 Michael never gets help.
Jeff's car was better.
Cale Yarborough was patient?

Yeah...he's won so many non-plate races.

I'm a Gordon fan, but I'm not gonna sit here and say that today's win
proved much. IMHO 90% of NASCAR drivers would have won with that car.
Same thing applies for the races Mikey won.

I'll give you this:

He's better than he used to be.

Let's look at the facts. Mikey has been racing in Cup for 20 years. Last
week was the first time in 7 years he had back to back top 10s.

Mikey can only win at plate tracks, and that's only because of the DEI
plate package & stewart is now o-fer 30 on plate tracks.
The stats don't lie.

Don't know if I would call him "one of the best drivers ever' but he seems to be
hitting a stride lately.

The DEI cars sure don't get much drafting help from anyone else. And how many
times did Junior hang
him out today (like usual???)

With 4 Wins he is far from a Great driver, two wins were the DEI car NOT
Mikey. One was a Crash and he was the only one not wrecked.

Great Driver NOT. Bush Driver in 06 Yes.

Well I was thrilled to watch him race. At the moment, I don't think there
ARE any GREAT dirvers. I think there are a whole lot of GOOD drivers. My
comments were merely because I enjoyed watching his race and thought he put
on the best show yesterday. He didn't have the best car, but he sure did
give it everything he had. In my opinion, and enjoyable and exciting
performance. He's not my favorite driver. He doesn't have to be a great
driver to put on a good show. He does posess qualities that make him a
likeable driver. and certainly he is one of my favorites.

Good show. Good entertainment. I was glad he had a good day, wish it had
been even better for him. A driver does not have to win in order for me to
like them. But when they do win, I'm certainly happy for them. I DO like
them to be competetive, and Mikey certainly was that yesterday.

With the huge (most popular driver) fan club that Jr inherited since the
kid's poor daddy died, I'm sure networks will kill to get him in the
hollywood hotel. He will not be unemployed.
I wet a Polaris dealer, and there was a full sized cardboard cutout of Jr
wearing a Polaris firesuit. When you go to gun shows, he's wearing a
Remington Firesuit. When you go to a bar, he's wearing a Budweiser
Firesuit. There is definitely marketability in Jr. His stuff is on sale
everywhere. I'd just like to know when he has time to be changing into all
of these firesuits.

I think there are two truly great drivers in NASCAR today.

One is Jeff Gordon. I cannot stand him and I wish him a 43rd place finish in
every race, but he has shown he can win on every type of track on the schedule.
And I respect his ability.

The other is Tony Stewart. He's probably the purest racer in the series today.

All the other good drivers (Martin, Rusty, Kenseth, Busch, Jarrett, etc.) don't
hold a candle to those two at this point.

So that makes him the best driver ever? I have nothing whatsoever
against Mikey but if he is the best then I'm in the top 10, and
you're soft in the head. For the first time in some time, he had a
car that stayed together for the duration and he wasn't in the
"pack" and didn't get destroyed (again).
