It's obvious they don't care anymore since they are losing nascar after next
season - all I can say is about time...

That's because NBC exhausted the sponsors advertising budgets at lap 350!

after all, how many times did you see Newman use his "speedpass" in 3 hours?

race to this point because of commercials

Been kinda slow around here, so I thought I'd list some ads
that I'm really really tired of:

Any GEICO caveman or lizard ad. The Lauren Wallace ones are still
amusing, tho.

Any Hanes underwear ad, with or without Michael Jordan.

The stupid Craftsman robot (why stupid? Every time I see the ad I
have a vision of the car rocketting out of the pits, and spluttering
to a halt on the backstretch, because the robot didn't put any gas in).

Any Toyota Tundra commercial which features some absurd mechanical
contrivance breaking and almost crushing (or forcing off a cliff,
etc) the truck.

The Advance Auto Part commericals featuring some creep snooking
around in the dark and peering in on a guy working on his car.

I'm OK with most of the gecko ads.

Some of the caveman ads are better than others.

The Lauren Wallace ones are still
amusing, tho.

Totally!

Any Hanes underwear ad, with or without Michael Jordan.

I haven't watched any of those. I watch TV with
the clicker welded into my hand.

The stupid Craftsman robot (why stupid? Every time I see the ad I
have a vision of the car rocketting out of the pits, and spluttering

I have never liked that ad at all.

Any Toyota Tundra commercial which features some absurd mechanical

Agreed 100%. Ditto for weird Ford truck ads. I do
like the dirty jobs guy when he does Ford commercials.
Ah--Mike Rowe.

The Advance Auto Part commericals featuring some creep snooking
around in the dark and peering in on a guy working on his car.

Tuned it out completely.

Never liked the caveman. Think it's because that whole series of
commercials hits me as "let's make fun of any group that's offended to be
stereotyped and/or denigrated."

I do still like the gecko. Now that their sponsorship in the series is over
we're not going to see it, but I really would have liked to see a tv
commercial spinning off the radio commercial where Mike Wallace is talking
about the gecko being "going to ride with him every week"....and the
announcer says something like "Mike, you KNOW Geico isn't going to let their
spokesman ride in a dangerous race car" and Mike replies that he *didn't*
know that....and has already gotten "the little guy" his own firesuit and
everything.

Like Cousin Carl taking the track with the duck, I think gecko-in-car could
have made a really cute commercial. :)

Well, they could still do it, only with Mad Max instead of Mike
Wallace. The plan of the moment has Geico & Germain Racing doing
about half the Cup season next year.

(as an aside, I was impressed with the seamless edit on the voice
track of the first Lauren Wallace commercial, where "but you don't
race in the Busch series" was redone to "but you don't race in the
series". But they didn't figure out a way to morph a Chevy into
a Toyota in the background).

In the commercials I'd like to see category, would be Lauren
Wallace against the go-kart girl from the Danica Patrick Go
Daddy ads.

I don' like the Craftsman robot, the Tundra "near-miss" ones, or any
of the Ford ones (in particular, the new ones).

I do like the Ambrose/koala bear ones, but they could be more clever.

John,

It's actually not hard to do once you've had a little practiced
editing digitally. Depending on the inflection, they may have just
cut the word "Busch" from the original audio, or they may have had the
v/o talent re-record the one line. I'd need a really clean copy of
the audio to tell for sure, but I think they just edited out "Busch".

One other possibility is that, depending on when the audio was cut,
they might have known that Busch was going away, but didn't know who
the new primary sponsor was going to be, so they just had the talent
record both lines in the original session. That would make it easier
to edit it in, but it's not a requirement

In my current job, it's not uncommon for me to have to go in and
redo a line two or three months after the original recording (most
likely, because the client wants a script change). We know I'm done
when we edit in the new line, and you can't hear the difference. Most
of the time, I can get it in one or two takes.

take care,
Scott

All very true. Mark does edits like this on a daily basis. You can
even cut words from some other place in the script and paste them into a
new section, literally creating sentences out of words from different
places. The technology they have to do it with these days is amazing.
Much better than the old tape and razor blade days, which I loathed.
