the one track that demands NO FEAR

active cup drivers who have won more than once at the world's largest,
fastest, and steepest-banked super-speedway: (cup wins at Talladega)

Dale Jr. 5
Jeff Gordon 3
Sterling Marlin 2
Mark Martin 2
Bill Elliott 2
Terry Labonte 2

Are you sure Talledega is faster than Atlanta?

Are you sure Talledega is faster than Atlanta?

Atlanta is slightly faster at the moment, because they have fitted Talladega
with training wheels (restrictor plates).

If you ran an Atlanta car at Talladega it would clock in at around 255 mph,
so let's not kid ourselves which is the fastest track in the world, it would
be 60 mph faster than Atlanta.

The only other track that is even close (using the same unrestricted cars on
all tracks to be fair) would be Daytona, but it would be about 20mph slower
due to less steep banking and shorter length.

cheers!

The only wins that count are those at Bristol. Everything else is just the
details.

Junior has all of those wins due to an enormous horsepower
advantage. Back when it was obvious that the DEI cars were
the only ones that could pass without having to slingshot.

actually, one of Gordon's wins is BOGUS, the spring race last year, where
they stopped the race with 4 laps to go and gave the race to Gordon, when
Jr. was clearly going to win easily, so the score should really read:

Dale Jr. 6
Jeff Gordon 2
Sterling Marlin 2
Mark Martin 2
Bill Elliott 2
Terry Labonte 2

I think we should just give Junior credit for winning every race that he
enters from now on out.

Right. Typical Junior fan. Can't take the fact that Junior did not win on
a plate track so he re-writes history to state that Junior was clearly
going to win. Funny - Junior wasn't up front, so just how do you figure he
was going to win?

In case you haven't noticed, whoever is leading on the LAST OFFICIAL lap of
the race is ALWAYS the winner.
Why didn't the almighty Jr take the lead 1 lap earlier?
Did he happen lose his bottle of Winfuel snake oil before that race?

Was that the race where many fans threw their bud cans and coolers
out onto the racetrack after nascar determined that JG was the
leader when the caution came out; thus making it impossible to
finish the race under green because of the debris?

I kind of like the "was clearly going to win easily" comment. Hell, why
even have the race, then? Let's just run ten laps, see who is doing the
best and hand out the trophies. It would save one hell of a lot of time,
wouldn't it.

You might have a career in nascar's upper management; this sounds
a lot like "the chase for the cup" ten race championship--for anyone
who knows anything about racing, the most idiotic idea ever conceived.

I could let this ride, or I could comment on having to put "smiley"s up.

Never mind

YES, the race where about a 1/4 of a million NASCAR fans at Talladega almost
rioted because of NASCAR stealing the race from Jr., if you actually WATCHED
the race, you would know why they were so pissed.

not to mention about 75 million pissed off fans at home

you can argue all you want, but I am afraid that about 95% of NASCAR fans
who saw the race agree with me on this one.

the fans don't tend to near-riot unless the race result is truly BOGUS

and NO, the debris was not what kept the race from being finished, it was
NASCAR's no red flag in last 5 laps rule, that has since been changed to
green/white checker, BECAUSE the fans rebelled!

thank God for Talladega fans!

your statements contradict each other....the debris would have taken more
than the last three laps to clean up therefore the race was called....no
morons tossing debris would have meant a drop of the greenflag....as usual
in life the "fans" in the stands got what they earned....

You really believe that would have happened if the second place driver's
name was "Smith" or any name other than Arnhard?
Those unruly fans truly disgusted me then and they disgust me now everytime
they start a hootin' and a hollerin' for the #8 when he attempts to take the
lead. Someone should take their beer priveliges away each Sunday.
It's a sickening display of "sympathy" for a privileged child who will never
be the man his father was.
