Mark Martin's Texas paint scheme

Haven't seen it mentioned/discussed -- what was with Mark Martin's paint job and
design of the number "6" at Texas?

'Twas a 'retro' scheme, H.B....back in the day, ya'know...same shade of blue and
the blocky numeral.

Hi H.B.... supposedly it was a retro paint scheme... but I was under
the impression that retro paint schemes usually reflects old sponsor
logos or paint schemes that have been used before neither was the case
on Mark's car since Pfizer was still on the hood ~ unless they were
particularly referring to the color which is the same as his old
Stroh's car and the font of the number only (in which case, calling it
a "retro paint scheme" seems a bit of a stretch, IMO).

I think they were speaking specifically to the retro "paint" scheme. Even
with "old colors" he still has to run his modern sponsor.

Seeing the 6 "painted up" like that brought back some good old
memories....of the days he was perinnially chasing Dale Senior for the
title, and was winning as many races per year as anyone. Back when the
"NASCAR Nation" was the people that camped out at the tracks for days prior
to the races, and not some TV show. lol

Just to add to what others have said, it was the Stroh(s) Light colors
he ran in 1988-89. Actually they said it the scheme when he won his
first race at The Rock in 1989. But back then you saw the same scheme in
almost every race.
He will later run the Folger's red (I think at the Winston, a Valvoline
scheme and a fourth that I do not recall. It might an ASA paint schene.

They did the same thing with ole DW... with the Gud, Gatorade, Mountain
Dew and others the color and scheme was the same as when Dw raced under
thos colors but every car has Western Tire America on it.

I believe the fourth paint scheme is from 1981 - his first Cup car.
It'll be run at Homestead.
