Radio cord - why not wireless?

Al Neill 18 April 2005 00:56:41
I understand there may be some barriers to putting the entire radio
mechanism on the helmet, etc. .but could they not at least use a
bluetooth type wireless technology to connect the radio in the helmet to
the radio in the car?

Tony is not the first guy I have seen struggling with his radio cord
getting out of a burning car.

Funny I've seen it lots of times...it's not so much a struggle as an
oversight. It doesn't really hold them back no matter what Chris Meyers
said. The connections aren't THAT strong.

Spoken like someone who's not been closer to a race car than the 7th
row and whose most exhilarating ride to date was in a Radio Flyer...

The connections between the helmet and the rest of the radio come apart
pretty easily.

Bluetooth between the helmet and radio would suck because it can be
unreliable and I don't rate the speech quality. Also, you's still need a
wire between the helmet and the talk button on the steering wheel. Maybe you
could look at another wireless option but it means there's be another radio
to go wrong (we've seen a couple of radio failures so far in the Cup races
this year already) and another battery to remember to charge lol.
