In-car cameras???

H . B . Elkins 11 April 2005 21:22:46
One of the reactions to the Hmiel-DJ incident that I heard was from Rusty -- he
said that, basically, Hmiel should have known better because he had an in-car
camera and his team had paid for it.

To those in the know -- is that the way it works? Do teams pay to have in-car
cameras installed? I've often wondered how the cars were chosen to have in-car
cams

As near as we can tell, it was on 4/11/2005 11:22 AM when H.B. Elkins
transmitted as follows:

The sponsors pay...that's why there are strategically placed logo
stickers in every shot.

As a general rule, the in-car camera is sold by the TV's just like
any other advertising opportunity, and the team/sponsor pay for
it (which one actually pays could depend on the contract, altho
ultimately the money comes from the sponsor either way). Occasionally
if there's more in-car cams than sponsors who want to pay, the TV's
will ask for volunteers to carry a camera. I don't think that's
happened for several years, at least not in Cup.
