Sherwin-Williams DEJ Auto Paint

John P 22 March 2005 05:46:57
I ran across this while picking up some other goodies at my local SW
automotive store. I was just going to buy some for the can (it's a black DEJ
label with his sig on it), but decided I could use some Budweiser Red on a
hobby project I'm working on (computer case).

The guy there said they have 8 colors total (Thus the name "8 Tonz"?). I
asked if they had a display case - he said he hadn't seen one yet, but had
heard they were supposed to have one along with pint cans (the quarts are
pretty pricy - even for automotive paint - $100 per quart)... but then, for
what I've spent on diecasts, I don't guess this is all that out of line -
plus it will look good among the diecasts display. I wonder if they'd sell
me just the cans, with no paint in them. :-)

I paint a lot of things - PC's, guitars, drum sets, bikes... pretty much
whatever - I mostly bought the quart of red for the DEJ can, but I figure
it's a very cool bright red that I'll use often.

I have a nice collection of paint supplies, clears, primers, additives, etc.
SW has a nice *fast* clear that works great (CC930)... I always have a
gallon on hand. I just tried the new CC950. It's not a speed clear... more
designed for bigger jobs, but I'm going to keep some around because it looks
so good (not that the 930 is shabby). I just finished a black bass guitar
with the 950 - no buffing- and it looks awesome. Two coats, back to back (no
time in between), and it looks like you could stick your hand into the paint
job. Very nice.

It gets even more fun when you start experimenting with adding things to
it - crushed glass, crushed mirror, different kinds of flakes, tiny glass
globes...
