 Atlanta doesn't sell out?

Not very often. My own opinion but I think that the fall race at
Atlanta will end up in Vegas because of this very reason.

Perhaps is at least one of their races was in the "summer"...

One event in March and one in October....neither conducive to fans traveling
from great distances with the family.

Michigan which is more typically boring has both dates in the summer and
pretty much sells out both....and keeps adding seats.

People who really enjoy racing would find Atlanta one of the best
tickets besides Bristol. Fast, multi groove racing that has great
finishes like today.

The weather in March has always been a deterrant to selling tickets.

Also....a lot of fans left in the middle of the race because the 8 car
sucked.

I'm not kidding, the crowd in Atlanta is like that. If the 8 ever had
a bad day at Talladega, you'd see the same thing happen.

honestly... a little drop in the temperature wouldn't keep a real race
fan from the track.

The seats that are low do not sell very well because the view is terrible.
You'll see a lot of empty seats down low, but they still had a huge crowd on
attendance.

I didn't think that they sold some of the low seats at all because of the
IRL incident at Charlotte.

I suspect there were about 110,000 there today. The stands were about 90%
full.

I am sure you meant per race, not per year; since they race twice. The
seating capacity is over 125,000 (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Motor_Speedway ). I would say that
the place was 90% full; which puts it at over 110,000 fans yesterday. I
searched online, but for some reason NASCAR is not posting the attendance
numbers anywhere. I checked NASCAR, Jayski, and racing-reference.

Humpy was complaining about a 10% drop-off at Lowes; but made no mention of
Atlanta; so I don't think Atlanta is a problem. Also, this year was a
record purse ($4.75 million), which leads me to believe they
(NASCAR/France/Helton)are happy with the numbers. Like I said though - I
was there, and the place was packed for the most part. There were no empty
seats to be seen in Weaver; and looking across the track it looked packed
to the gills.

Sad really, considering that neither California or Vegas sold out, and
empty seats were obvious on TV. And to think that NASCAR took
Rockingham off the schedule for the same reason. Guess the whole west
coast experiment has been a rousing success.

If they could put another 100,000 seats at Bristol....and handle the traffic
and parking they could still sell out both dates.....school being in or
not...any hillbilly would yank their kid out of school for a few days for a
trip to BMS.

That one wouldn't even require a note from your parents, the teachers may

Sure they can add seats at Bristol - just put them in the infield.

What's an IRL incident got to do with seats at a Cup race?

If there's one thing that all proracing/spectator organizations take
very seriously, it's a race car and/or car parts getting into the
spectator areas. Nascar's worst nightmare is something like a repete of
the '55 LeMans accident.

They have them in a bridge. Next I think will be hanging from swings over

Unless there is something new at Bristol this year I think you're referring
to Dover with it's luxury seats in the pedestrian bridge....there is no
bridge at Bristol.
